About This Event

The LA Wheelmen http://www.lawheelmen.org/ “Newcomers’ Ride” is not only for beginners but also for those who typically ride alone and are interested in expanding their horizons in terms of routes, learning to ride in groups, or just getting to know bike-friendly LA routes.

Want to join social rides but afraid to join a group ride because will it be too fast or too far? Will it be too slow or too short?

This Newcomer ride will address all these issues before the start by reaching a consensus on pace, distance, stops, and type of ride (flat, bike path, climbing, mix?), and an experienced leader or leaders select a route from the extensive LA Wheelmen route library. The group rides together or regroups at set locations (no drop), depending on the mix of riders. Possibly there will need to be two routes to accommodate everyone.

The second DTLA Newcomer Ride will start at Los Angeles State Historic Park and include “CicLAvia – South LA” as part of the route. Two routes will be available: (1) a shorter route (approximately 20 miles) that tours selected historical and contemporary sights in DTLA on a circuitous path to the CicLAvia hub and returns more directly to the start after the unique CicLAvia experience, and (2) a longer route that follows the same path to CicLAvia but then continues to visit more local sights before returning more or less directly to the start location. Additional, guided miles are available after the official finish for riders who would like to climb through Elysian Park and pay respects at the tomb-like Dodger Stadium area.
