This will be a nice little 4.5-mile hike with about 1400 ft total ascent. One day, while meandering about Los Liones Canyon, I found some side trails and shortcuts. We'll take these side trails up the canyon and return by way of the "book trails."

The Los Liones Canyon Trail weaves through a lush canyon just a mile from the Pacific Ocean. Slivers of big blue sea can be seen from much of the ivy and chaparral-lined canyon

At the top of the canyon we'll head on up the Paseo Miramar Trail. The NO FIRE ROAD rule will be in affect and we'll travel the use trails along the side ridges and contours to our destination
Fire roads? We don't need no stinkin' fire roads!:

Our destination is a peak with a giant shady oak tree and that will be our break spot and turnaround point. Here we are under that tree August 2014

This is a nice hike on a hot day. Check out the rest of the pics from last August: http://www.meetup.com/localhikers/photos/all_photos/?photoAlbumId=24063542
Directions
From Santa Monica or Malibu: Take the Pacific Coast Highway and turn on Sunset Boulevard. Go 0.3 miles on Sunset, take a left on Los Liones and drive half a mile to the end of the street. Park on the right side of the street in the lot across from the church.
There is plenty of free street parking, as well as two lots near picnic areas and restrooms.
