About This Event

Did you make a new year's resolution to lose some weight and get in shape by trying out some hiking? Then this hike is for you.

With two waterfalls, scenic volcanic outcroppings, a variety of hiking trails, several pleasant picnic areas, and abundant open space, Wildwood Park is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the nearby city.

We'll do a 5-mile loop with easy-to-moderate elevation gain. First to Lizard Rock by way of Mesa Trail and Stagecoach Bluff Trail, then down to the stream. At this point there is a picnic area with bathrooms and water at Wildwood Canyon.

Not much farther upstream is the waterfall. Steps lead down to the pool beneath Paradise Falls (which should be spectcular after the recent rains). Continuing upstream, we'll pause to view Little Falls. We return to parking lot by way of Indian Creek Trail.

Notes: As suggested above, dogs and active beginners are ok. Please know your limitations and keep in mind that "beginner" does not necessarily mean "easy." Total elevation gain is about 700' (this figure is an accumulation of smaller gains).

There will be a few shallow creek crossings that may require some easy rock hopping, if the planks are are washed away. Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet. Dogs should remain on leash.

Bring sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen and a camera. Because there are fresh water sources along the way, you don't have to bring as much as usual.

Directions: Take either Lynn Rd or the 23 to Avenida de los Arboles. Turn west to the end of the road. Parking lot is on the left

Note that I made the hiking time 9:30 for you sleepy-heads
