About This Event
Get set for an adventurous trek along a hardscrabble ridge and down through a once-busy but now wild canyon. Rustic Canyon, the retreat of Will Rogers and his cohorts, later a secret enclave of pre-WWII American Nazis, and still later an artist's colony has reverted to a virtual wilderness after a series of floods and fires over the decades.
This hike has a little bit of everything: boney ridges, ocean and city views, streams, a lush canyon, a waterfall and stories from the past. It will be about 6 miles with a 900' elevation gain.
Our trip will begin and end at Will Rogers State Historic Park (https://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=626). The park is located off Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades. Park and meet by the restrooms next to visitor's center just above the polo field. Don't forget to bring my cell number above.
From the 405 exit Sunset Blvd west for about 4.5 miles and turn right on Will Rogers and drive about 1 mile
From PCH turn north on Temescal for 1.1 mile, right on Sunset for 1.4 mile, left on Will Rogers for a mile
Parking fee is $7.00.
Wear long pants and shoes you do not mind getting wet. If your shoes are not waterproof it might be a good idea to bring an extra pair of socks. Most importantly bring a camera...there will be lots of sightseeing to do.
Full Disclosure: I have not done this hike yet. But I have researched it and have topo maps and GPS. What could go wrong?
