DESCRIPTION:Mandeville Canyon is a "bucket list" climb on the longest paved dead end road in Los Angeles for LA cyclists. It is the featured destination for today's ride as we continue exploring our city on two wheels. For today\, we add a flat 2.5-mile detour on the return route to visit the Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden\, featuring a girder from one of the twin towers.\\n\\n\\n\\nNeither easy\, nor hard\, our route is comparable to the July Lake Hollywood ride in terms of distance and climbing profile. Your cycling friends "in the know" will be impressed that you completed the climb and you will be able to bring others on future attempts to try to beat meetup group member Carmichael's PR.\\n\\n\\n\\nThis ride is rated for intermediate to advanced riders due to the distance and climb. e-bikes will have no problem with this ride regardless of fitness level.\\n\\n\\n\\nAt 30 miles and just under 2\,000 ft of climbing\, the basic route features a 5.3 mile climb. Because the Canyon road is a dead end\, the traffic is not usually a problem even though there are no bike lanes. The route is all about the climb. The climb isn't steep until the very end\, and the downhill return isn't crazy fast. Climb as much as you feel comfortable. Everyone has to retrace the route on the way down. We will regroup as needed to keep everyone together.\\n\\n\\n\\nIt's been HOT the last couple of weeks but the forecast calls for a cooling trend starting Saturday so this is a perfect opportunity to get outside. Forecast\\n\\n\\n\\nDetailed cue sheets will be provided. The ride will be pre-ridden during the prior week to check on road conditions. Thus\, updates may occur at the last minute.\\n\\n\\n\\nriewithgps track: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40887309\\n\\n\\n\\nCue Sheet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YVNZw6p9qSfjeYmvcCpzrYWa4HsiZOTX/view?usp=sharing\\n\\n\\n\\nRequirements:\\n\\n\\n\\nHelmets are mandatory. Make sure your bike is in good operating condition and bring at least one spare inner tube.\\n\\n\\n\\nThis is a self supported ride – there is no SAG. In case of a major mechanical breakdown\, plan on calling an Uber or phone a friend.\\nBring sufficient liquids/hydration and snacks/energy bar/gels… etc for the ride length and temperature.\\n\\n\\n\\nEbike? - OK if it is Class 1 or 3 and you keep a pace consistent with the group.\\n\\n\\n\\nGuests? - OK - Bring them along or better yet have them sign up.\\n\\n\\n\\nParking - There is paid parking in the Culver Steps parking structure. Some Culver City parking meters are free on Sunday and there is parking around Media Park if you arrive early. There are also some free parking spots along Venice Blvd.\\n\\n\\n\\nRestrooms - There are clean restrooms available at the Culver Steps meeting area.\\n\\n\\n\\nWaiver: http://www.bfk.com/wheelmen/wheelmenwaiver.pdf\\n\\n\\n\\nSign up to this event constitute participant's agreement to release all liability against organizers/host/sponsors of this event.
