DESCRIPTION:http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/d/3/b/600_441079771.jpeg\\n\\n\\n\\nDOGS WILL BE ALLOWED ON THIS ONE\\n\\n\\n\\nThe original Nike Missile base observation tower on San Vicente Mountain provides one of our premier locations for an afternoon potluck. We will be treated to spectacular views of the Santa Monica Mountains\, the San Fernando Valley\, and the Los Angeles Basin to the ocean.\\n\\n\\n\\nhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/d/5/3/600_441079795.jpeg\\n\\n\\n\\nThis moderate 5-mile loop with 600 feet of net elevation gain (about 750 total) makes for an excellent hike along and around Mandeville Canyon and its ridges.\\n\\n\\n\\nIts about a 45 minute hike to the top.\\n\\n\\n\\nhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/e/9/e/d/600_456719885.jpeg\\n\\n\\n\\nSee http://www.lamountains.com/parks.asp?parkid=54 for park info\\n\\n\\n\\nBring food/snacks and drink to share -- we'll hike them to the top. Count on me to bring some white wine\, and table cloths. Please bring cup\, plate and flatware for yourself. Please post in Comments section below what food or drink you will be bringing\\n\\n\\n\\nhttp://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/e/7/d/600_441080093.jpeg\\n\\n\\n\\nThere are facilities at the park. No need to carry trash out.\\n\\n\\n\\nGabe from the Calabasas Day Hikers asked to join us and will be leading his group from the Caballero Canyon trailhead in Tarzana\\n\\n\\n\\nDirections to Trailhead\\n\\n\\n\\nFrom Sunset Boulevard\, 2.3 miles west of the 405 freeway\, head north on Mandeville Canyon Road. Drive 4.8 miles\, and turn left onto Garden Land Road. The trailhead is at end of road.\\n\\n\\n\\nParking Tip: There probably won't be any parking on Garden Land (its a very short residential street\, as the map reveals) so park on west side of Mandeville as close to the corner as possible\\n\\n\\n\\nThere are neighborhood homes around the trailhead\, please keep noise to a minimum.....until hike starts \;)\\n\\n\\n\\nTrivia: Did you know Mandeville Canyon Rd is reputed to be the longest paved dead-end road in Los Angeles\\n\\n\\n\\nThe Organizers and members of Hiking With Dean are not professional leaders\, guides\, or mountaineers. The function of the member or organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who shows up for a trip/meetup (and their guest or guests) is responsible for his or her own safety.
