Its been 8 years\, over 500 hikes and about 4\,000 miles.....Time to celebrate!Like the last couple of years\, The Nike Missile base on San Vicente Peak will provides a great location for for our Anniversary Hike. We'll also be treated to spectacular views of the Santa Monica Mountains\, the San Fernando Valley\, and the Los Angeles Basin to the ocean.\\n\\n\\n\\nDaveR will be leading the Tarzana team\\n\\n\\n\\nYou will also take a glimpse into United States military history. Numerous self-guided interpretive displays explain how from 1956-1968\, San Vicente Mountain was one of sixteen Los Angeles area Nike-Ajax supersonic anti-aircraft missile launch sites. Atop the radar tower we'll also be treated to spectacular views of the Santa Monica Mountains\, the Encino Reservoir\, the San Fernando Valley\, and the Los Angeles Basin to the ocean.\\n\\n\\n\\nhttp://youtu.be/Xh-ExP0STFc\\n\\n\\n\\nHike is about 6.5-miles out and back with an intervening loop and about 600 feet of elevation gain on the way to the park. It will also provide time for last minute grocery shopping. There are picnic benches and facilities by the tower. No need to carry trash out.\\n\\n\\n\\nThis is a Potluck Event. Bring food/snacks and drink to share. Count on me to bring some white wine and red Solo cups. I will also bring enough napkins and plasticware for everyone. Go about 3 miles and drive into the park on street near the top of Reseda. There is a yelllow line crossing Reseda Blvd inside the park.
