DESCRIPTION:http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/8/d/e/event_103671422.jpegSome say the open spaces and trails lacing Porter Ranch serves as a nice model for community development. Others will argue that the Valley would be a better place without the square miles of new housing developments. But at least we still have the opportunity to wander the remaining vestiges of two riparian canyons and a cliff-rimmed hillside blanketed with aromatic sage.\\n\\n\\n\\nSo let us set out for the suburban stronghold of Porter Ranch for a variegated 8 mile loop through the hidden wilds and wild suburbia of the north valley including Aliso and Limekiln Canyons. Total Ascent is 1000 ft.\\n\\n\\n\\nTwo oak- and sycamore-shaded canyons--Aliso and Limekiln--and some eroded sedimentary outcroppings known as "The Palisades" are some of the highlights\\n\\n\\n\\nWe'll take our snack/lunch break at "E.T. Park" (Aliso Canyon Park\, where they filmed ET)\\n\\n\\n\\nBeginner option is a 3 mile out and back hike in Limekiln Canyon. At 1.5 miles the beginners return to cars as a subgroup while the main group continues forward . This part of the hike is on an easy to follow trail.\\n\\n\\n\\nE.T: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - Filming locations (http://vimeo.com/21530781) from Herve Attia (http://vimeo.com/user6368429) on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com).\\n\\n\\n\\nThis video shows the location of our hike. The maker did an excellent job in juxtaposing scenes from ET with present day shots. Pay particularly close attention to the opening shots\, the dirt path a bicycle is riding on and the park. We will be hiking over those spots\\n\\n\\n\\nSee also http://onthesetofet.b... (http://onthesetofet.blogspot.com/)\\n\\n\\n\\nDirections\\n\\n\\n\\nThe trailhead is on Rinaldi St between Corbin and Tampa Aves north of the 118 fwy. From the 118 exit Tampa Av. Turn north toward the hills and make a left on Rinaldi. Drive about 0.2 mi and park at curb. Trailhead is on the right across the street from World Vision Church.\\n\\n\\n\\nThe Organizers and members in this group are not professional leaders\, guides\, or mountaineers. The function of the member or organizer is only to organize the trip. Each person who shows up for a trip/meetup (and their guest or guests) is responsible for his or her own safety.
