DESCRIPTION:Las Virgenes and Cheeseboro Canyons like you have never seen them beforehttp://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/f/1/c/global_14453020.jpeg (http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/f/1/c/highres_14453020.jpeg)!\\n\\n\\n\\nThis adventure hike arose from an exploratory I did over a year ago. We'll hike along forgotten ranch roads and use trails. It will include a hike over the eastern ridge of Cheeseboro Canyon and to the Baleen Wall along a forgotten and overgrown trail. We'll then descend into Upper Las Virgenes Canyon by way of a vanished ranch road. Much of the remainder of the hike will be on unmanaged and overgrown use trails.\\n\\n\\n\\nIf you click on and look closely at the picture above you will see the remnants of a gate but there are no trails here\, but at one time 3 unpaved roads met there. Besides our group no one has been here in possibly decades!\\n\\n\\n\\nThis is a strenuous hike and will go for about 8-10 miles.\\n\\n\\n\\nhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/6/5/c/event_85478492.jpeg\\n\\n\\n\\nThe Baleen Wall\\n\\n\\n\\nBack Story\\n\\n\\n\\nWhile pouring over some old topo maps of the Upper Las Virgenes area I noticed a couple of "unpaved roads" that I have never seen while hiking. I loaded the road into my GPS and went to the location in search of these roads. When I arrived at the site\, there was no sign of any road. Not ready to give up\, I proceeded to walk the same path as if the road was there. Later\, just when I thought I was on a wild goose-chase\, I came across some artifacts (see picture above) that confirmed the topo data (and the accuracy of my orienteering!).\\n\\n\\n\\nThis will be the second time here for the group. The first time we started at Las Virgenes. This time we'll start at Cheeseboro.\\n\\n\\n\\nCheck out our first hike: http://www.meetup.com/localhikers/events/16187632/\\n\\n\\n\\nhttp://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/8/a/6/event_85474982.jpeg\\n\\n\\n\\nThis photo of a bobcat was taken in Cheeseboro Canyon 12/31/2010 by Jared Hughey\\n\\n\\n\\nBring plenty of water\, snacks\, hat\, sunscreen\, your best hiking boots and long pants.\\n\\n\\n\\nPost-hike lunch will be at\\n\\n\\n\\nWolf Creek Restaurant (http://www.wolfcreekbrewingco.com/)\\n26787 Agoura Rd.\\nCalabasas\, CA 91302\\n\\n\\n\\nDirections\\n\\n\\n\\nFrom the 405/Valley:\\n\\n\\n\\n--Take 101 North/West\, take Cheseboro Rd exit and make a right turn on Palo Comado\\n--Curve around to the left and make a right on Cheseboro Cyn Rd (Welcome to Old Agoura)\\n--Continue north about a half mile\, cross a narrow bridge and turn right into park entrance (Welcome to Agoura Hills)\\n--Drive up this road to the end and park in parking lot.\\n\\n\\n\\nFrom Thousand Oaks:\\n\\n\\n\\n--Take101 East\, get off at Cheseboro Rd\, cross Dorothy and make a left on Palo Comado.\\n--Continue on Palo Comado back over the Freeeway and make a right on Cheseboro Rd as above.
