About This Event
Deans Elves visit the Island of Misfit Toys to find presents for millions of girls and for millions of boys. Well maybe not millions but maybe a couple of dozen anyway. You are encouraged to wear an elfin hat and bring an unwrapped present to donate to Toys for Tots in case we do not find any on the island. I will take any donations and drop them off after the hike. Purely optional so please only do what you are comfortable with.
This trip will start with a boat ride at 9:00 AM via Island Packers from Ventura to Santa Cruz Island. Please note that the pin on the map isn't exactly correct. Island packers is a 1/4 mile further around the harbor. At Scorpion Harbor (Santa Cruz Island) We will transfer to the beach on small skiffs and then start our hike. Bring extra shoes and socks in case your feet get wet during the landing.
The hike will be 8 miles with around 1,100 feet of climbing. I am keeping it pretty short since we will not have a lot of time between boats. We will hike up to the abandoned oil well and then make a looping trip to the North side of the island and take a lunch break at Potato Harbor. Then on to Cavern Point and finally back to Scorpion Harbor to catch the 3:30 boat home. There are a couple of options to shorten the hike if you find yourself falling behind. There will be an early dinner at Andreas for those who wish a quick bit of fish before driving home. You can buy your boat tickets on line from Island Packers. They have a very nice website where you can get it done. You can also reserve your tickets over the phone. I will post my ticket in the pictures so you can confirm your boat choice.
