About This Event
Hike Has Been Rescheduled for Saturday
This is a full moon hike from the Trippet Ranch in Topanga State Park to the Parker Mesa Overlook. Bring some Potluck snacks and beverages (beer and wine is best) that you can carry up. Let us know what you will be bringing for me to eat in the comment section
Perched high above the Palisades and Malibu, the vista from the Parker Mesa Overlook is stunning. As you watch the sunset, you can see all of the LA basin laid out before you, the San Gabriel Mountains to the north, Catalina Island to the south, and the crescent shaped coastline of Santa Monica to the east.
The first section of the trail meanders through a lovely oak grove with lush green grass. Above Trippet Ranch, the trail traverses the ridgeline between Topanga and Santa Ynez Canyons, with views of giant sandstone slabs and the ocean peaking out between the folds of the mountains.
Its about an hour hike to the overlook. We will hike back down under a bright full moon which will light up the wide flat trail. Flashlights will not be necessary.
Sunset: 7:16 Moonrise: 7:35
The hike is 6 miles round trip with a 400' net elevation gain plus a few ups and downs. Active beginners should do ok.
DIRECTIONS: From the Ventura Freeway (101), exit at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, drive south and proceed 8 miles to Entrada Road and turn left. Keep to the left at every opportunity until you reach the park's main parking lot (about one mile)
From Pacific Coast Highway, travel north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, pass the post office at the center of "town," then turn right on Entrada Road.
Parking is $10.00 (exact change) in Park. There is some street parking on Entrada a block before the gate.
Bring at least 1 qt of water for the hike, camera.
Please arrive by 5:45 to allow time for paying to park, or walking in from outside, and be ready to hike at 6:00.
