About This Event

Rocky Peak Park forms the most critical wildlife habitat linkage between the Simi Hills and the Santa Susana Mountains. Dramatic rock formations, outcroppings, oak savannahs, and perennial water sources provide diverse habitat for birds, mammals, and reptiles. Our destination will afford continuous panoramic views of both Simi and the San Fernando Valleys.

We will be arriving at Rocky Peak via the Johnson Motorway. Ann and Neils Johnson were the first English speaking homesteaders in the San Fernando Valley. They built their home in "Chatsworth Park" in the 1870s and a ranch up in the hills that we will be visiting along the way.

This will be a strenuous 9.5 mile hike with about 1400 ft net elevation gain.

Directions:

Drive to the northern terminus of Topanga Canyon Blvd and make a left on Poema Pl. Continue up Poema about 0.4 miles to the Indian Springs Estates gate and park on street. After registering with the guard we will walk through the gate and a couple blocks to the Johnson Motorway.

The homeowners have provided a green line for hikers to follow through the neighborhood streets. Please respect the homeowners' wishes and remain on the green line and keep the noise levels down.
