About This Event

This is an almost-full-moon evening hike from the Trippet Ranch in Topanga State Park to the Parker Mesa Overlook. The first section of the trail meanders through a lovely oak grove with lush green grass. Above Trippet Ranch, the trail traverses the ridgeline between Topanga and Santa Ynez Canyons, with views of giant sandstone slabs and the ocean peaking out between the folds of the mountains.

Perched high above the Palisades and Malibu, the vista from the Parker Mesa Overlook is stunning. As you watch the sunset, you can see all of the LA basin laid out before you, the San Gabriel Mountains to the north, Catalina Island to the south, and the crescent shaped coastline of Santa Monica to the east.

The hike is 6 miles round trip with a 500' net elevation gain plus a few ups and downs. Active beginners should do ok.

This is a potluck If possible bring food and drink that you can carry up -- we will share and eat at the top. Please post your contributions in the meetup comment section (not the rsvp comment section). No Maybes. Hike begins at 5:30 PM sharp!

DIRECTIONS: From the Ventura Freeway (101), exit at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, drive south over the crest of the mountains and proceed three miles to Entrada Road (not Entrado!) and turn left. Keep to the left at every opportunity until you reach the park's main parking lot (about one mile)

From Pacific Coast Highway, travel north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, pass the post office at the center of "town," then turn right on Entrada Road.
