SUMMARY:Big Sky Trail\, Simi Valley
DESCRIPTION:This is a moderate 4-mile hike in the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains\, with an elevation gain of 650’\, suitable for fit beginners. \nThe Hike\nMy hikes are slow paced (1.5-2 mph) and the listed end time is only an estimate. We take breaks\, we explore\, and we don’t leave anyone behind. If this hike isn’t for you\, please find another that best suits your needs. \nMeet me at Falcon Park (see directions below) at 6:00\, with a start time at 6:05. \nThe hike loops around the Big Sky housing development. A portion of the hike follows the creek that runs through the neighborhood. Most of the elevation gain will be at the beginning\, however\, there are about nine additional inclines dotted throughout. Once we reach the ridge at the top\, we’ll have great views of Whiteface Mountain and surrounding mountains in all directions. \nThe hike will be cancelled if: \n\nHot weather\, high winds\, rain\, or fire\n\nEssentials \n\nVentura County SARS 10 Essentials\nBring 2 liters of water\, flashlights\, snacks\, electrolytes\nBring your hiking poles if needed.\nWear good hiking boots/shoes\, sunscreen\, hat\nBring a jacket for cooler weather\nBug spray\n\nOther Details \n\nTrail: fire Road\, single track\, crossing the street\, sometimes through neighborhoods\nDogs: On a leash per state law\nRestrooms: Behind a rock\nWater Fountain: None\nParking: Free\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, mountain lions\, bobcats\, tarantulas\, scorpions\, slip-‘n-fall\, poison oak\nWeekday hikes in Simi Valley hikes start at 6:00pm.
