DESCRIPTION:North Ranch – Windmill Canyon Trail\nHighlights \nEasy 1.6-mile route with ~200′ of elevation gain. \nScenic\, meandering through grassy meadows and oak groves. \nPart of the 2026 Conejo Open Space Challenge. \nWe will be adding part of Saddle Pass Trail for additional mileage and incline for those looking for a bit more challenge. \nDescription\nWindmill Canyon Trail is a very easy and pretty hike\, perfect for beginners.\nThere is no street parking at the south end near Thousand Oaks High School. Instead\, park near the north end on Via Colinas and walk north on Via Merida about 350 yards to the trailhead on the left. You’ll need to go around a fence on Via Merida to access the trail.\nFrom the trailhead\, it’s a simple out-and-back hike\, turning around when you reach the high school. \nKey Statistics\nDistance: 1.6 miles (out-and-back)\nCumulative Climbing/Descent: 200′\nParking: Free on Via Colinas\nPopularity: Popular with walkers and dog owners\, especially after work\nTread Surface: Hard-packed trail of varying widths; some minor ruts and possibly loose sand\nHazards: Typical trail conditions\, nothing unusual\nFacilities: None\nConnections: Connects to Saddle Pass Trail\, a steeper\, more challenging trail linking other North Ranch area trails. Adding a portion of Saddle Pass will increase mileage and incline. \nDirections\nFrom the 101 Freeway in eastern Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Westlake Blvd.\nTurn right onto Thousand Oaks Blvd after 0.1 miles.\nContinue for 0.6 miles\, then turn left onto Via Merida.\nDrive 0.5 miles\, then turn right onto Via Colinas and park on the street. \nMap: https://bit.ly/48hUqlZ
