SUMMARY:Humpday Hike - Vista of the Angels\, a.k.a. Angel Vista via the Rosewood Trail.
DESCRIPTION:5:45 PM START TIME – WEDNESDAY NIGHT\nI’ve been get too much couch time lately and need to get my tuckus moving\, so here we go… \nThis is kind of my “go to” hike\, it’s on my way home\, it’s not too long and the views can be spectacular! \nThis is a great weeknight hike\, not too hard nor too easy – I would say it’s “Just Right”! \nAlthough not a true beginner’s hike\, the gain is spread out evenly over the whole climb which makes it fall on the easier end of the intermediate scale (while still being a good workout). There is a great picnic table at the top which makes it perfect place to do a little socializing during these crazy times! . We will try to limit this time to about 15-20 minutes max. so we can get back down at a decent hour (I’m shooting for around 7:30ish)\, so I can grab some 🌮🌮 afterward…it is during of the week after all! \nIt can also get a bit chilly up there\, even during the warmest weather\, so if you get cold easily bring a jacket\, hat\, gloves\, blanket or other suitable warming device. \nDirections: From the 101 take the Ventu Park exit and go South toward the ocean. At Lynn Road turn right. VERY soon you will pass an open space on your left. Watch for the entrance to Regal Oak Ct on your left\, where you will turn…um…left. Take it all the way to the end and park. This is a neighborhood\, so let’s try to be somewhat restrained. We will meet at the trailhead on the left/east side of the road. \nDistance: 3.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 790′\nDifficulty: Easy to Intermediate\nDogs: Leashed\, per State law\nRestrooms: No\, but there are many bushes\, but please watch out for the (2) patches of poison oak!\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free along the street\nTrail: Single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: 5:15\, so bring a light!!! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes 🐍\, those pesky rocks that jump up out of know where\, inconsiderate MTBer’s or people that talk your 🦵 off!!! \nDisclaimer / Release of Liability: You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. This Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Gaviota Peak
DESCRIPTION:This week: Gaviota Peak. Meet at South Coast Railroad Museum at 6:00p for the shuttle to Trailhead. This route ascends the South side road and Trespass Trail to Gaviota Peak. The last mile gets pretty steep\, so take your time so you don’t gas. Trail offers great views of the Pacific Ocean and Gaviota Pass. Stop at the top for refreshments. Gaviota Peak is known to be windy\, so do bring appropriate over gear. Return on the North side fire road back to the shuttle vehicles. Stop by the Hot Springs for a dip on way down (optional game time decision)\nDistance – 7.13 mi\nAscent – 2227ft\nWater crossings – NO\nRock scrambling – NO\nBush whacking – MAYBE\nMaximum Grade – >25%\nStrava Effort – 2.2x \nCarpool Spot: South Coast Railroad Museum @ 6:00p\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/v3dsFWhMT4Tb9TZE9 \nTrailhead: Gaviota Trailhead (but please do carpool!)\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/ydKmtJWe86AobHQb6 \nStrava link\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3240794108339058778 \nHike Leader this week will be Kevin Hanrahan. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. For questions\, Kevin can be reached via text at 805-895-5655. \nAbout Wednesday Evening Hike series\nWe will meet at 6:30p at the trailhead unless otherwise noted for that week. We sometimes carpool to trails up to 45 minutes away. We attempt to vary the trails selecting amongst those that are open and in hike-worthy condition. We hike the front country\, the backside of the front range and occasionally adventure even further. Hikes are typically in the 6-9 mile range with 1500-3000 ft of total ascent. Occasionally we’ll mix in a harder hike where returns can be very late. These hikes are meant for those with some hiking experience and moderate athletic condition. The pace varies and larger groups usually split\, but we will re-group at intersections and stick together where the path is ‘iffy’. Please dress appropriately with hiking boots/shoes and comfortable clothes meant to get sweaty and possible wet. Headlamp and/or flashlight required. Bring a water resistant jacket for rain/gloom or just cold air which is frequent at altitude. We recommend 1-3L water bladder in a backpack depending upon trail difficulty so that your hands are free to cross water or scramble up/down rocks. Bug spray is a good idea as bugs are very active at dusk (better to have and not need.) Some folks bring hiking poles. I recommend long sleeves and pants to prevent scratches\, poison oak and ticks. \nWe typically stop at the top\, add a layer for warmth and enjoy a snack. This can be some of the best fun as folks drag up hot tea\, other libations\, and all sorts of baked goods to share. Yum! \nGroup organizers assume no liability; hike at your own risk. By being a member of this group\, you hereby agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from any group functions. You agree that you nor any third party will hold any of the group’s leaders liable for any injury\, loss\, or damage to your own self or property arising directly or as a consequence of a group activity. You also agree that your membership of this group is based on an “at will” basis.

SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Arroyo Burro to Creek
DESCRIPTION:This week: Arroyo Burro. Parking at the Water Processing Plant/Jesusita Trailhead off San Roque Road. This route follows Jesusita Trail for a little over 1/2 a mile\, then bears left to Arroyo Burro Trail. The route meanders through private land on North Ontare before ascending a steep power line access/fire break road to the single track. That single track gently winds along the range offering stunning views of the Eastern Goleta Valley. Destination is the creek about 2/3 up which is where we’ll break for a snack.\nDistance – 8.1 mi\nAscent – 2484ft\nWater crossings – Step over\nRock scrambling – No\nBush whacking – No\nMaximum Grade – >25%\nStrava Effort – 2.4x \nTrailhead: Cater Water Processing Plant/Jesusita Trailhead\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/P6Sh6xBTPxHk4YFo7 \nStrava link\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3450705773910742182 \nHike Leader this week will be Carlos Alvarez. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. For questions\, Carlos can be reached via text at 805-284-8137.

The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. SUMMARY:Placerita Canyon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Come join me at Placerita Canyon Nature Center for an afternoon hike on the Canyon Trail and then go further to the waterfall. There was water a few weeks ago when I hiked it last\, hard to say if the waterfall is still there as it has been warm and dry the past few weeks and water dries up fast.\nIt is a nice fairly shaded canyon that will be beautiful with flowers and probably some water crossings. We can also decide to turn around a little earlier as you do a little rock climb to get to where the waterfall would be. \n\nDistance: 5.1 miles or maybe a little less if we turn around at base of fall area.\nElevation Gain: about 500 ft\nDifficulty: easy intermediate: I go at a moderate pace only stopping briefly if needed and take a little longer break at the halfway waterfall point.\nDogs: Not preferable due to our pace and the climb to the waterfall\, but they are allowed at the park. We won’t wait for you for your dog’s pitstops.\nRestrooms/water: Yes at the nature center parking area\nParking: free lot but can be crowded\, may need to park a ways from the trail but it is a large lot. Allow time to get there and look at the nature center. I suggest getting there 1:30 if you have not been there before to explore and park.\nTrail: Out and back\, may have some uneven footing\, poles can be helpful as there may be a few water crossings/rock hops\nSunset: 5:37 pm\, plan to be done by 5pm probably won’t need a light\, but never hurts to bring just in case as it is part of the 10 essentials when hiking.\nWeather: Extreme Heat\, high winds\, rain can cancel the hike\nKnown dangers: There is poison oak on this trail\, you can slip and fall on wet rocks\nBring a snack\, water (I suggest at least a liter or more) and sun protection\, polls if you use them and lug sole shoes\, might be wet and slippery (trail runner or hiking shoes highly suggested)\nIf less than 2 besides the leader are signed up by the morning of event it will cancel.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\nYou must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions\nIf you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\nThe organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Vasquez Rocks and the Pacific Crest Trail
DESCRIPTION:Let’s burn off those Valentine Day chocolates on one of my favorite trails at Vasquez Rocks. This is a moderate 5-mile hike with an elevation gain of about 554’. \nThe Hike\nMy hikes are slow paced (1.5-2 mph) and the end time is approximate only. We take breaks\, we explore\, and we don’t leave anyone behind. If this hike isn’t for you\, please find another that best suits your needs. Also\, please review the disclaimer below. \nMeet me at the visitor center at 11:45-12:00. We will hang out at the center for about 20 minutes before starting. My estimated start time is 12:20. They have very nice exhibits and restrooms. If there are no parking spots available at the visitor’s center\, keep driving down to the dirt parking lots\, you’ll find more room there. \nFrom the visitor’s center we will make our way west and hike above the valley. We will have views of Vasquez Rocks from another perspective than what we typically see in photos. Eventually we’ll make our way to the junction and turn right onto the PCT trail. We’ll hike along the creek\, into the canyons and take a break at the caves (it’s pretty). Then we’ll continue through the wildlife tunnel (directly below Highway 14) and turn around. We won’t be able to walk through the tunnel if there’s too much water. \nOn our way back through the canyon\, we will turn right at the junction\, continue along the PCT\, make our way to the famous Vasquez rocks\, explore and possibly climb to the top. I will point out where Captain Kirk and the Gorn stood (a perfect spot for a group picture). The hike ends at the Visitor’s Center. \nAfter the hike\, how about a nice Mexican meal at the Maria Bonita Restaurant in the cute town of Agua Dulce\, just up the road from Vasquez? https://www.mariabonitarest.com/ \nThe hike will be cancelled in the event of: \n\nHot weather (85 degrees or higher)\nHigh winds\, rain\, or fire\n\nEssentials \n\nVentura County SARS 10 Essentials\nBring 2 liters of water\, flashlights\, snacks\, electrolytes\nBring your hiking poles if needed.\nWear good hiking boots/shoes\, sunscreen\, hat\nBring a jacket for cooler weather\nBug spray\n\nOther Details \n\nTrail: single track\, fire road\, some rocky terrain\, crossing the creek\nDogs: On a leash per state law\nRestrooms: At the park or behind a rock\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, mountain lions\, bobcats\, tarantulas\, scorpions\, slip-‘n-fall\, poison oak\n\nDirections\nVasquez Rocks Natural Area Park\n10700 Escondido Canyon Rd\, Agua Dulce\, CA 91350\nGoogle Coordinates: 34.488907\, -118.321428\nView the Google Map \nDriving Directions \n\nHead north on the I-5 toward Santa Clarita valley.\nTake exit 162 for State Route 14 North (Antelope Freeway) going toward Lancaster/Palmdale.\nAt about 14.3 miles take exit 15 for Agua Dulce Canyon Road\ncontinue about 5 minutes to the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n\nYou must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\nThe PM Hiker organizers are not trained leaders and do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips.\nIf you sign up for any event\, you are releasing the PM Hiker organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\nHiking and other outdoor events can be dangerous\, and accidents can happen.\nPer Meetup rules\, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being. SUMMARY:Sunday 4pm - Rocky Peak Sunset hike
DESCRIPTION:Sooth your SuperBowl disappointment or temper your Valentines Day exuberation with a hike up the Rocky Peak trail Sunday afternoon.\nPic is Sunset on the Rocky Peak trail Oct 2023. Thank you Teka\, \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike in every Sunday afternoon for over 20 years\, and he’ll be leading this event as long as he keeps getting large annual hike-organizer pay raises. This hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Mission Ridge
DESCRIPTION:This week: Mission Ridge (Tunnel Trail). This route ascends Tunnel trail for 2 miles then heads up the spine of Mission Ridge. Pause for refreshments and great city light views halfway along the Ridge. The Ridge trail follows the spine for 3/4 mile and drops off on an Edison access road. After a brief side trip to see the moonlit maze (picture above)\, the route follows the Edison road all the way back to the Trailhead and parked cars.\nDistance – 5.4 mi\nAscent – 1779ft\nWater crossings – NO\nRock scrambling – SOME\nBush whacking – SOME\nMaximum Grade – >25%\nStrava Effort – 1.7x \nTrailhead: Tunnel Trailhead\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/beKanekLtRhGSJs29 \nStrava link\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3285753744737467558 \nHike Leader this week will be Kevin Hanrahan.

SUMMARY:Trail Talks: Far-flung hikes of the Los Padres with Perry Van Houten
DESCRIPTION:Trail Talks: Far-flung hikes of the Los Padres with Perry Van Houten \nThursday\, February 19\, 6:30pm\nFaulkner Gallery – Santa Barbara Public Library\n40 East Anapamu St.\, Santa Barbara\, CA \nJoin local author Perry Van Houten as he shares about destinations in the mountains past Ojai that aren’t so easy to get to. We’ll travel to exotic locations with waterfalls\, fire lookouts\, and unusual botany or geology. Places such as Dry Lakes Ridge\, Thorn Point\, and Matilija Falls. All places that made his knees hurt\, but were worth the adventure. \nPerry has worked in radio for nearly 50 years. During that time he worked for several radio stations throughout California\, and for more than a decade his radio show was syndicated across the country and around the world. In July 2017\, he joined the Ojai Valley News as a full-time writer and reporter\, and has written a number of articles about the local trails and hikes\, while continuing to produce news content for radio. Perry has been hiking our local trails for more than 35 years. Recently\, his big project has been building a replica of the Wheeler Gorge Post Office\, which stood for more than 80 years before burning in the Thomas Fire. Today\, the rebuilt “USA’s Smallest Post Office” (as listed by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!) can be seen at the Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center\, about 8 miles north of Ojai on SR-33. \nThis free presentation is part of the Trail Talks series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library. \nThe next talk in the series is Thursday\, March 19\, Wildflowers and other Wonders of the Santa Barbara and Ojai Mountains with James Wapotich

SUMMARY:Anza Trail Hike Through Carpinteria
DESCRIPTION:Join the Trails Council for a five-mile living heritage trail hike from Rincon Beach County Park to Santa Claus Lane on February 22\, 2026.\nWalk in the footsteps of history as you follow ancient Chumash trading routes later traveled by the Anza expedition. In 1775–1776\, Juan Bautista de Anza led 240 migrants—including families with women and children—northward toward the San Francisco Bay Area and camped near present-day Rincon Point at a site known to the expedition as La Rinconada\, in proximity to the established Chumash village of Mishopshnow\, within an area the expedition referred to as La Carpintería; a journey now observed as a National Historic Trail. \nThe Anza expedition arrived at Rincon Point on February 24\, 1776—almost exactly 250 years before this commemorative hike. Father Pedro Font’s diary brings the scene to life: a stunning coastal landscape\, whale spouts rising offshore\, and the remarkable Chumash people whose masterful craftsmanship\, maritime prowess\, and vibrant community left him awestruck. \nWe will meet at Rincon Beach County Park at 10 am and walk five miles to Santa Claus Lane\, arriving at about 1 pm. The route will generally be flat\, but it includes a steep section. Participants will need to arrange their own shuttle by leaving a car near the destination and driving another to the starting point at Rincon Beach County Park. Carpooling is encouraged.

SUMMARY:Humpday Hike - Vista of the Angels\, a.k.a. Angel Vista via the Rosewood Trail.
DESCRIPTION:5:45 PM START TIME – WEDNESDAY NIGHT – No Rain This Week!!!\nI’ve been get too much couch time lately and need to get my tuckus moving\, so here we go… \nThis is kind of my “go to” hike\, it’s on my way home\, it’s not too long and the views can be spectacular! There is a great picnic table at the top which makes it perfect place to do a little socializing during these crazy times! . We will try to limit this time to about 15-20 minutes max. so we can get back down at a decent hour (I’m shooting for around 7:30ish)\, so I can grab some afterward…it is during of the week after all! \nDistance: 3.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 790′\nDifficulty: Easy to Intermediate\nDogs: Leashed\, per State law\nRestrooms: No\, but there are many bushes\, but please watch out for the (2) patches of poison oak!\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free along the street\nTrail: Single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: 5:48\, so bring a light!!! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes \, those pesky rocks that jump up out of know where\, inconsiderate MTBer’s or people that talk your off!!! SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Flores Peak
DESCRIPTION:This week: Rattlesnake to Flores Peak. We’ll hike up Rattlesnake to the Meadow where we’ll turn RIGHT up to Gibraltar Road. The hike to the road is 13% on average\, but does have some brief 20%+ sections. Once we hit the road we’ll turn LEFT and hike the road for about a third of a mile to the Gibraltar Rock outcropping which will be on our left. On the right is a parking area where the final ascent to Flores Peak begins. This ascent includes some use of hands and is quite tight in spots\, which adds to the fun. Up top there is a rock garden with many picturesque spots and a great view of the city below\, day or night. We’ll snack there and return on the same route.\nDistance – 6.3mi\nAscent – 2380ft\nWater crossings – EASY\nRock scrambling – SOME\nBush whacking – SOME\nMaximum Grade – >30%!\nStrava Effort – 2.0x \nTrailhead: Rattlesnake Trailhead on Las Canoas Rd\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/m42Rjp3rQvnrqpJD9 \nStrava link\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3273122319102739320 \nHike Leader this week will be Kevin Hanrahan. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. For questions\, Carlos can be reached via text at 805-895-5655. Please dress appropriately with hiking boots/shoes and comfortable clothes meant to get sweaty and possibly wet.

SUMMARY:Chumash Night Magic hike at 6pm Thursday
DESCRIPTION:A silhouette following me down the Chumash. Looks Canadian.\nThe pic is from the top of Chumash trail on Jan 15\, 2025. Thank you Jimbo \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley every Thursday night since the Jurassic Period\, and he’ll be leading this event until the Ice Age\, i.e. this hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. When you get to the ‘slippery’ part just over a mile up\, ask him who was responsible for Kurt breaking his ankle there in 2012\, but don’t believe whatever he tells you. (Just kidding\, Mark\, don’t get touchy!)\nNote: Kurt will not be attending except for when he visits from Michigan. \nDistance: 5.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 1200′\nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners\nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on Flanagan\nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark\nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer)\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Mt. McCoy\, Reagan Library and a Six-Planet Lineup in Simi Valley
DESCRIPTION:This is a relatively easy to moderate 4.8-mile out-and-back hike with an elevation gain of ‘800. \nBring your binoculars or telescope because we’re in for a treat as Mercury\, Venus\, Saturn\, Jupiter\, Uranus\, and Neptune will line up along the western horizon at dusk. FYI\, the almost full moon and possible cloudy skies may impede the viewing but it’s still a wonderful hike. \nSunset is at 5:50pm and dusk about 6:15. \nThe Hike\nMy hikes are slow paced (1.5-2 mph) and the listed end time is only an estimate. We take breaks\, we explore\, and we don’t leave anyone behind. If this hike isn’t for you\, please find another that best suits your needs. \nMeet me at Donut Delight\, on the corner of Madera and Royal\, at 4:50pm. We will begin promptly at 5:00pm. \nFrom the donut shop\, we will cross over Madera and walk a short distance through the neighborhood to the trailhead. We will hike a series of about 20 switchbacks for 1.5 miles to the cross at the top. This is a steady climb along the face of the hill\, always in full view of Simi Valley. At the top are panoramic views of Simi Valley\, Moorpark\, the Simi Hills\, Santa Susana/Santa Monica Mountains\, and the Reagan Library. From the top\, we will take a detour to the Reagan Library before heading back down. \nThe hike will be cancelled in the event of: \n\nHot weather (85 degrees or higher)\nHigh winds\, rain\, or fire\n\nEssentials \n\nVentura County SARS 10 Essentials\nBring 2 liters of water\, flashlights\, snacks\, electrolytes\nBring your hiking poles if needed.\nWear good hiking boots/shoes\, sunscreen\, hat\nBring a jacket for cooler weather\nBug spray\n\nOther Details \n\nTrail: single track\, fire road\, rocky terrain in some areas\, asphalt\, sidewalk\nDogs: On a leash per state law\nParking: free\nRestrooms: none\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, tarantulas\, slip-‘n-fall\n\nDIRECTIONS\nAddress: 1464 Madera Rd\, S.V.\, corner of Royal and Madera.\nGoogle Coordinates: 34.265278\, -118.795583\nClick here to view the Google map \nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n\nYou must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\nThe PM Hiker organizers are not trained leaders and do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips.\nIf you sign up for any event\, you are releasing the PM Hiker organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\nHiking and other outdoor events can be dangerous\, and accidents can happen.\nPer Meetup rules\, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being.
