SUMMARY:Las Llajas Canyon to an Abandoned Mining Operation Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join me Wednesday\, September 24 to hike the canyon and then go up to the old Cochina Mine. This group usually does not hike at a slow pace so please keep that in mind if joining.\nLast time we decided to turn around because it was too hot so by request want to give one more try to get to the mine area before we lose our evening daylight!\nStarting out Las Llajas Canyon Trail is fairly easy but it does become a moderately difficult hike if you decide to hike up to the mine area. As a group we can decide if we are up to going up the hill to the mine or not\, so it will depend on how we feel due to weather\, light etc and if we can stay together. If we go to the mine it might be more like 7 miles. You can always decide to stay in the canyon and do the easy route and we can decide as a group if we want to go a little further.\nThe mine at the top still has some shells and interesting relics! Each time I go I see or learn something different about the place. \nThis hike should probably only take about 2 hours at my pace but allow for 3 just in case! We will take a short break to explore the mine area and then head back the way we came. It will probably be dark on the way back so please make sure you have a light. The hill up to the mine is steep and not for beginners\, The canyon portion is easy and scenic but please wear shoes appropriate for hiking with good tread. \nDistance: 6 miles (or more depending on what you decide) \nElevation Gain: 1000′ \nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate \nDogs: no \nRestrooms: no \nWater Fountain: No \nTrail: Out and back \nSunset: 6:48 pm please bring a light or charged phone as it will be dark on the way back.\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes can be on this trail so beware! Something else occasionally sighted here depending on the time of year are wandering steers since the trail is in a ranching area. Slip-‘n-fall is always possible so please wear good shoes or use poles if you wish to\, poison oak may also be on the trail so watch what you brush up against. \nBring: \n\nPlease bring at minimum a water bottle of at least a liter\, a mistake beginners often make is thinking it is cool or easier so they do not need much water. I would rather carry it and not need it than not have it.\nAn optional snack if you think you need one for when we take a little break at the mine or at our halfway turn around point.\nFlashlight/headlamp\nHat or sunglasses if you feel you need them since we start in daylight\nAn extra layer to put on and off\, when you stop it can get chilly!\n\nThis hike will be cancelled: if it is excessively hot\, windy\, rainy or if less than 2 people besides myself are signed up by the afternoon of the event. \nDriving directions and parking: 118 Yosemite offramp go toward the hills and turn right at Evening Sky\, trailhead on the left. Park on the street but watch the signs for the sections that say no parking. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. \n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Wallace Trail
DESCRIPTION:This week: Bill Wallace Trail. Meet at South Coast Railroad Museum 6:00p. We’ll drive to trailhead up the coast a piece. This route ascends Bill Wallace Trail along the ridge to the West of El Capitan Cyn. This trail is in good shape and you get some sweeping views of the coast between Goleta and Gaviota. This trail has a few options to cut distance and elevation. Hike day vote as to how long and what route we take.\nDistance – up to 10 mi\nAscent – up to 2300ft\nWater crossings – STEP OVER\nRock scrambling – NO\nBush whacking – No\nMaximum Grade – >15%\nStrava Effort – 1.5-2.5X \nCarpool: South Coast Railroad Museum (6:00p)\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/e2r3wJvNia9MaeqVA \nTrailhead: Wallace Trailhead (but please do carpool!)\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/UwEbVSiPCCSN6cdN9 \nStrava link (full loop)\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3280709718542877656 \nHike Leader this week will be Kevin Hanrahan. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. For questions\, Kevin can be reached via text at 805-895-5655. \nAbout Wednesday Evening Hike series\nWe will meet at 6:30p at the trailhead unless otherwise noted for that week. We sometimes carpool to trails up to 45 minutes away. We attempt to vary the trails selecting amongst those that are open and in hike-worthy condition. We hike the front country\, the backside of the front range and occasionally adventure even further. Hikes are typically in the 6-9 mile range with 1500-3000 ft of total ascent. Occasionally we’ll mix in a harder hike where returns can be very late. These hikes are meant for those with some hiking experience and moderate athletic condition. The pace varies and larger groups usually split\, but we will re-group at intersections and stick together where the path is ‘iffy’. Please dress appropriately with hiking boots/shoes and comfortable clothes meant to get sweaty and possible wet. Headlamp and/or flashlight required. Bring a water resistant jacket for rain/gloom or just cold air which is frequent at altitude. We recommend 1-3L water bladder in a backpack depending upon trail difficulty so that your hands are free to cross water or scramble up/down rocks. Bug spray is a good idea as bugs are very active at dusk (better to have and not need.) Some folks bring hiking poles. I recommend long sleeves and pants to prevent scratches\, poison oak and ticks. \nWe typically stop at the top\, add a layer for warmth and enjoy a snack. This can be some of the best fun as folks drag up hot tea\, other libations\, and all sorts of baked goods to share. Yum! \nGroup organizers assume no liability; hike at your own risk. By being a member of this group\, you hereby agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from any group functions. You agree that you nor any third party will hold any of the group’s leaders liable for any injury\, loss\, or damage to your own self or property arising directly or as a consequence of a group activity. You also agree that your membership of this group is based on an “at will” basis.

The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. When you get to the ‘slippery’ part just over a mile up\, ask him who was responsible for Kurt breaking his ankle there in 2012\, but don’t believe whatever he tells you. (Just kidding\, Mark\, don’t get touchy!)\nNote: Kurt will not be attending except for when he visits from Michigan. \nDistance: 5.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 1200′\nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners\nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on Flanagan\nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark\nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer)\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:"Off the Grid " Improv at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum
DESCRIPTION:Theatricum Botanicum has a resident improv comedy troupe called “Off The Grid”. For this event we’re going to see their show. The only hiking will likely be the trip from where you parked your car to the venue itself. \nWe just saw the August show and it was very funny. It’s actually held in a smaller stage and not the main Theatricum stage. \nThe show begins at 7:30 pm but we generally arrive by 6 pm or earlier to eat before the play starts. Several of us have been going there for plays and it’s always great to get together with friends there before the show. \nThere are tables and chairs near the snack bar in the garden. Bring your own food and drink. It’s unlikely that you will be able to buy food there for this performance. \nI’ll be in the garden around 6:00 pm. If I don’t see you there\, I’ll see you in the theater. \nYou can order your tickets here:\nORDER TICKETS HERE! (<- click this link) \n\nPlease order your ticket before you RSVP\n\nTicket Prices are $15 + $1 handling fee\, so $16 total.\nThis performance is general admission. \nImportant details: \n\nParking is available for free along Topanga Canyon Blvd\nLimited parking is available in the Theatricum lot for $10 per car. This fee is waived for guests with handicap placards. Though for the last Improv performance\, the parking lot fee was waived.\nBring a cushion to sit on.\nBring a jacket/blanket for cooler weather\nBring your own food and drink. \,\n\nDIRECTIONS:\nAddress: 1419 N Topanga Canyon Blvd\, about 5.5 miles from the 101\nGoogle Coordinates: 34.111264\, -118.592047 \nDriving directions taken from the website:\nFrom the 101\nTake the Topanga Cyn Blvd exit S. Continue South on Topanga Cyn Blvd for approximately 5.5 miles. Theatricum Botanicum will be on your right.\nFrom the PCH\nGo north on Topanga Canyon Blvd and continue for approximately 6.4 miles. Theatricum Botanicum will be on your left. \nA little history\nWill Geer (Grandpa Walton) founded the Theatricum Botanicum (a garden theater) in 1973. Set in a natural open-air amphitheater in Topanga Canyon\, he began a series of performances that include William Shakespeare’s plays\, modern plays and music concerts.\nhttps://theatricum.com/our-story/

SUMMARY:Sunday Rocky Trail Hike at 5:00pm.
DESCRIPTION:The south side of Jenga Rock with the actual Rocky Peak in the center above on Sept 7 2025. Thanks Alan and his smartphone camera. \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike in every Sunday afternoon for over 20 years\, and he’ll be leading this event as long as he keeps getting large annual hike-organizer pay raises. This hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire (or Mark sprains his knee). \nThis is a fire road with great views of the valleys and scenic rock formations all along. It starts out steep\, moderates for a while with some flat spots\, undulates easily for a while\, then a final steady grade (but not too steep) to the lemonade stand at the top. The lemonade stand operators apologize for never being there when youre hot and thirsty\, or not. \nDistance: 5.0 miles (I think anyway\, but 4.9 semi officially). \nElevation Gain: 1200′ \nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners \nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed \nRestrooms: No \nWater Fountain: No \nParking: Free at trailhead \nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, rugged \nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring: \nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark \nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer) \nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Rollercoaster Hike to Angel Vista
DESCRIPTION:Come and join me on a more difficult route to Angel Vista!\nFellow hiker (Lina )who is faster paced than me volunteered to be in front as I probably will be slower but she requested I host this hike again as I hosted it over 3 years ago.\nThis is not for beginners\, there are some steep sections that I would recommend using poles on and where quite possibly I will be lagging behind on but Lina says she can take you up and down. \nWe will start at Wendy and Potrero because parking there is best. Then take a side route to the start of the trail.\nDistance: 6 ish miles\nElevation Gain: 1300 Ft\nDifficulty: Intermediate not for beginners due to pace and steepness\nDogs: Please no dogs\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: There is parking by the official trail but the gate closes at 4 pm so we don’t park at that spot. Meet and Park at Wendy and Potrero parking area\nTrail: Out and back\nSunset: 6:18 pm you must have a headlamp or flashlight for this hike\nWeather: unusually hot\, windy or rainy weather will cancel the hike\nKnown Dangers: slip-‘n-fall\, poison oak\, heatstroke if it is really warm \n\nBring: at least 2L of water to be safe and optional snack in case you get hungry or want to share at the bench mid stopping point.\nFlashlight/headlamp/extra layer in case it gets cool on way down\nSunscreen and hat in case you need starting out\nI suggest hiking/trail shoes with good traction and possibly hiking poles. There is a really steep section and I am not sure the condition of the trail.\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Jesusita
DESCRIPTION:This week: Jesusita. Parking at the Cater Water Processing Plant/Jesusita Trailhead off San Roque Road. This route follows Jesusita Trail up to Inspiration Point. The route meanders through level ranch land before reaching a road and then ascending a well-trafficked trail up the south side including some switchbacks and then a traverse to a fire break road to the overlook. We’ll pause for city views and community refreshments and then return mostly the same route\, but down the overlook trail gulley which is a little loose.\nDistance – 6.88 mi\nAscent – 1579ft\nWater crossings – Step over\nRock scrambling – NO\nBush whacking – NO\nMaximum Grade – >15%\nStrava Effort – 1.7x \nTrailhead: Cater Water Processing Plant/Jesusita Trailhead\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/P6Sh6xBTPxHk4YFo7 \nStrava link:\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3278565038514636218 \nHike Leader this week will be Carlos Alvarez. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. For questions\, Carlos can be reached via text at 805-284-8137.

SUMMARY:Western Plateau Power Pole Hike with optional add on to Elliott
DESCRIPTION:Come and Join us October 8 for an evening hike! We may possibly also be able to catch a glimpse of the 3rd day of supermoon!\nThis hike can have some nice sunset views. We will stop at about a halfway point for a snack break and then at that point we can decide if we want to continue to Mount Elliott. I have not pre-hiked that section recently but whenever I am up there want to to try to make it a loop and from there know how to get to Elliott. We can go to Elliott and then turn around and go back the way we came or make it a loop. \nNote that we leave on time.\nDistance: 6 ish miles depending on what the group decides maybe more\nElevation Gain: 1400+ft\, maybe more if we go to Elliott.\nDifficulty: Intermediate hiker\, no beginners please\, we don’t take many breaks but keep going\nDogs: No\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: This time let’s park in the lot next to the trail. I believe it is called Conejo Canyons Trail and the address is 2736 Conejo Center Drive. We used to park farther back closer to Rancho Conejo because we were not sure if the lot closed but that does not appear to be the case.\nTrail: Out and back\, may have some uneven footing\, you may want your poles if you use them.\nSunset: 6:28pm suggest bringing a headlamp or charged phone for light\nWeather: Extreme heat\, high winds or Rain will cancel this hike\nIf less than 2 besides myself are signed up by the afternoon of the hike will also cancel.\nKnown Dangers: slip-‘n-fall\, poison oak\, speedy mountain bikers\nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp and an extra layer\, it can get chilly in there even on a warm day. Bring enough water to stay hydrated\, 2-3 liters should be plenty and a snack for the breakpoint at the top.\nWear hiking shoes and also maybe a hat or sunglasses\nHike Description:\nThe name of the actual hike area is called Conejo Canyons Trailhead and you can get more details if you look it up on alltrails.com.\nWe hike near Hawk Canyon and then go up to a point where we can optionally make it a loop to stop at Elliott or go back the way we came. Some may choose to only go to the power poll where it reaches the Lichen trail and turn around. Those that want to go further can continue on to Elliot Peak and return back the way they came.\nDirections: Please do not use the pin but note the description and address to park at\nTo get there get off of the 101 freeway Rancho Conejo Blvd ext. Take Rancho north to the end\, turn left on Conejo Center Drive. This time park in the trailhead parking as we have observed it does not get locked while we are hiking but you can also park on the street.\nFrom Rancho/Conejo Dr Turn left onto Conejo Center Dr. intersection if front of the Utilities/CNG Filling Station place and instead of parking there park at the trailhead parking lot. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. This route ascends San Ysidro trail through some nice creek-side properties to the the single track which is NOW OPEN! We head up the single track to the Waterfall (probably dry right now?). From there we bear right up the steep kitty litter part to the top of the waterfall and ascend the steady incline all the way up to Camino Cielo. This trail has been closed for a few years to repair storm damage so I can’t speak to its condition\, but formerly this was one of the best maintained trails in the front country. SUMMARY:Beach Hike - Zuma Beach to Point Dume
DESCRIPTION:I invite you to join me on this beginner friendly 4-mile hike with an elevation gain of 250′. It’s getting too dark for evening walks on the beach\, so I am testing out a Friday late afternoon beach walk. \nMy hikes are slow paced (1.5-2 mph) and the end time is approximate only. We take breaks\, we explore\, and we don’t leave anyone behind. If this hike is not what you are looking for\, please find another that suits your needs. Thank you. \nMeet in front of the “Sunset Restaurant.” We will start promptly at 4:30 (no wait time) so please be there on time. If you are late\, face the ocean and turn left. \nThe Beach Walk \n\nThe tide will be pretty high at 4:30 (low tide is at 7:22pm)\, we may or may not be able to walk along the beach\, if not we’ll walk through the parking lot to the point.\nOur first stop is the 194-step staircase that leads down to the shore on the other side of the point. We’ll hang out a few minutes\, then walk up the same 194 steps back to the trail.\nFor those who don’t want to do the stairs\, you can hang out at the top with DaveR.\nThen we’ll do the usual hike up to the top and admire the views. Bring a jacket\, it can get windy and cooler up at the top.\nFinally\, we’ll take the trail along the boardwalk and around the cliffside and to the point.\nLet’s top off the evening with a good meal at Spruzzo’s. Here’s the dinner menu.\n\nChecklist \n\nBring your flashlights just in case we need them.\nBring a least a liter of water\, snacks for energy\, hat\, poles if you need them\, sunscreen.\nBring a wind breaker as it can be windy at the top.\nBring a jacket if you easily get cold.\nSandals or water shoes is the preferred footwear for the beach part of the walk\, barefoot is good too.\nFor the trail going up to the top\, you may prefer to wear something else (my water shoes work fine for the beach and trail).\nYou might get wet so bring a towel or brush to dry off and get the sand off your feet.\n\nOther details \n\nHigh tide is at 11:49am and low tide is at 7:22pm.\nSunset is 6:28pm and the last light is at 6:52pm.\nDifficulty: As hard as a walk on the beach.\nDogs: No. Dogs are not allowed on state beaches.\nRestrooms: Yes\, several on the beach but may be locked up at a certain time.\nWater Fountain: no\nKNOWN DANGERS: Drowning\, slip and fall\, sea monsters\, mermaids\, frisbee impact\, cold feet\, tsunami\n\nParking\nThere is FREE Parking along Westward Beach Road toward the Sunset restaurant. It also gets really crowded there so you may have to backtrack quite a bit to find a parking space. Please give yourself ample time to park and walk to the restaurant. \nThere is also paid parking past the restaurant\, but there is a fee. \nDIRECTIONS \n\nGoogle Coordinates: 34.011014\, -118.816616\nClick here for the Google Map\nAddress to the restaurant: 6800 Westward Beach Road\, Malibu\, CA. Westward Beach Rd is off of Pacific Coast Hwy\, just South of Zuma Beach.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY \n\nYou must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\nThe PM Hiker organizers are not trained leaders and do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips.\nIf you sign up for any event\, you are releasing the PM Hiker organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\nHiking and other outdoor events can be dangerous\, and accidents can happen.\nPer Meetup rules\, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. You take full responsibility for your own actions.\nThese rules apply to any guests you may invite.

By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. \n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \n• Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.

SUMMARY:Tapo Canyon Trail Evening Hike
DESCRIPTION:Come join me Wednesday\, October 15 for an evening hike. There is a chance of rain Tuesday into Wednesday so please pay attention the day of in case it cancels due to weather.\nThis is a pleasant area to hike in to get some exercise and is for advanced beginners if they are working on increasing their pace. We can decide as a group once there if we want it short and sweet or to extend the hike to the tarpits. \nI hike for conditioning We only stop briefly to catch our breath at the top of the hill and to regroup if we need to and maybe a brief break at about the halfway point.\nThis trail is not particularly steep so anyone at any level can start with us and hike at your own pace just let us know at the beginning of the hike so I can provide directions if you are faster or slower on where to turn as there will not be a sweep. \nDistance: about 5 miles ish\, depending on whether we go to the tarpits or not\nElevation Gain: 698 feet\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate due to pace and steepness\, loose gravel\nDogs: No\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free street parking\, just note there are some no parking signs and do not park there!\nTrail: Lolypop/Loop trail\nSunset: 6:20 pm please bring a charged phone for light or headlamp/flashlight for safety.\nWeather: Heat over 85 degrees (at 6)\, Santa Ana Winds over 12mph or rain cancels the hike (I won’t hike in those conditions). \nHike will be cancelled if by Noon the day of the hike less than 2 hikers besides myself are signed up. \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes are in the area on the trail so be mindful where you step\, a slip-‘n-fall is always possible so wear proper shoes\,/use poles if you prefer\, poison oak may also be on the trail so please watch what you brush up against! \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp or charged phone\, in case it is dark at the end\nA personal snack if you have not gotten to eat dinner so you have some energy to hike. \nLOTS of H20 is always recommended. A suggestion for this hike is 2 liters just to be on the safe side\, always better to have more than not enough. SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Arroyo Burro
DESCRIPTION:This week: Arroyo Burro. Parking at the Water Processing Plant/Jesusita Trailhead off San Roque Road. This route follows Jesusita Trail for a little over 1/2 a mile\, then bears left to Arroyo Burro Trail. The route meanders through private land on North Ontare before ascending a steep power line access/fire break road to the single track. That single track gently winds along the range offering stunning views of the Eastern Goleta Valley. Destination is a rocky flat spot code named 420 (for reasons I do not understand) where we’ll break for a snack.\nDistance – 6.3 mi\nAscent – 1820ft\nWater crossings – Step ove\nRock scrambling – No\nBush whacking – Maybe a little up top\nMaximum Grade – >25%\nStrava Effort – 1.8x \nTrailhead: Cater Water Processing Plant/Jesusita Trailhead\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/P6Sh6xBTPxHk4YFo7 \nStrava link\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3231466765950701460 \nHike Leader this week will be Carlos Alvarez. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. For questions\, Carlos can be reached via text at 805-284-8137.

SUMMARY:Sycamore Canyon Evening Hike
DESCRIPTION:Come join me for a pleasant intermediate paced evening hike.\nI am choosing this hike for Wednesday because there is a Double Comet Lemmon event happening this week that we may be able to see on our way back or even to our mid point.\nWe will hike to Danielson Campground\, it might be dark but we can take an optional brief snack break at the campground. Bring a light if you want to do that\, otherwise we probably won’t stop very long at the picnic tables the group can decide.\nWe will be on pavement or gravel most of the way which makes it a little easier. It can be hot starting out but it cools down pretty quickly. There might be a chance of mosquitos here so don’t say I did not warn you. \nThis also is considered a reverse hike in that the hardest section is returning back up the paved hill at the end. \nDistance: 6 miles on Pavement and gravel road \nElevation Gain: about 600 ft \nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate hike due to pace and distance\, but an experienced fast paced beginner or someone willing to go the distance (we only stop at the halfway point/picnic tables) should be able to do it too\, please do not expect anyone to wait for you if you are slower and do not know the way. \nDogs: No \nRestrooms: There is an Andy Gump toilet mid hike \nWater Fountain: No \nParking: Free\, make sure you do not park on the street across from the trailhead or you will get a ticket. Park farther down at Potrero and Pinehill on the right then walk to the trailhead. Please review the driving directions as we park in a neighborhood and not at the trailhead.\nGPS pin has not been reliable lately so review directions.\nTrail: Out and back\, pavement/fireroad this hike goes down at the beginning and up at the end \nSunset: 6:12pm bring flashlight or headlamp (a charged phone with a flashlight works too) will be needed for the way back to the car. \nWeather: Adverse Weather conditions will cancel the hike. Come prepared with a light layer in your pack in case you get chilly from all the sweat! (I usually get chilled on the way back). \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, poison oak\, Mosquitoes may all be encountered on this hike\, bug spray might be useful here\, possibly due to recent winds and dry weather we won’t encounter them this time. \nIt is always possible to slip and fall though the road is flat wear comfortable shoes that you can wear on pavement or dirt. \nBring: Your headlamp/light\, a personal snack\, light layer and LOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L or more L if you sweat a lot). Bug spray if you think you need it. \nEvent will cancel if on the day of the hike less than two besides the leader is signed up or if Santa Ana winds kick up since I hate hiking in the wind. SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Arlington Peak
DESCRIPTION:This week: Solstice Part 1 – Arlington Peak. Since the Solstice is Friday\, we’re dividing Solstice celebration into 2 parts. Part 1: Beautiful sunset views of our cherished town. Part 2: (following week) the easier hike and food/drink extravaganza at Dry Falls. This week we’ll meet at Tunnel Trailhead at 6:30p (please carpool). This route ascends Tunnel trail 1.0mi to Inspiration Point Trail. We’ll follow Inspiration Trail for 0.6mi to the South access trail to Arlington Peak. This segment is about a mile long but ascends 1400ft\, so pretty steep and scrambly. We’ll pause for refreshments up top and take in the views. Arlington Peak affords hikers some of the best views of Santa Barbara. The descent is very steep and requires some use of hands to navigate. At the bottom we turn right (South) for about 0.2mi where we meet back with Tunnel Trail and return 1.0mi back to the trailhead and our vehicles.\nDistance – 4.8 mi\nAscent – 2397ft\nWater crossings – NO\nRock scrambling – YES!\nBush whacking – SOME\nMaximum Grade – >50%!!\nStrava Effort – 2.4x \nTrailhead: Tunnel Trailhead (aka Inspiration Point TH)\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/ySqYW7G5Zpc7CZri7 \nStrava link\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3298516557239974610 \nHike Leader this week will be Kevin Hanrahan.

DESCRIPTION:Sun setting from the Chumash trail on Sept 25\, 2025. Thank you Jimbo (thats gonna be a hard photo to beat) \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley every Thursday night since the Jurassic Period\, and he’ll be leading this event until the Ice Age\, i.e. this hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. DESCRIPTION:🎶It’s creepy and it’s spooky🎶\nImagine it’s 1969\, you’re 13 years old and going horseback riding at Spahn ranch. You arrive and notice the owner and ranch hands are nowhere to be seen. Instead\, you are greeted by a charming young man – the notorious Charles Manson! He saddles you up and off you go through the hills\, and the trails\, and Charles’ hippie commune. That’s my true story and I’ll tell you more at the family cave. \nI want to hear your spooky stories too. \nThe Hike\nMy hikes are slow paced (1.5-2 mph) and the end time is approximate only. We take breaks\, we explore\, and we don’t leave anyone behind. If this hike is not what you are looking for\, please find another that best suits your needs. Thank you. \nThis is a moderate 3.75-mile loop hike with an elevation gain of about 692′. \n\nClick here to view the All Trails map\n\nMeet me at the south side of Rocky Peak Road\, along the Santa Susana Pass\, at 3:00pm. We will start promptly at 3:10pm. Please give yourself ample time to arrive and find parking. \nOur spooky hike begins with a short walk down the Santa Susana Pass Road to the trail. We will ascend an average distance with some ups and downs before descending into the canyon and to the family cave. As we get closer to the cave\, we may find some interesting artifacts that may have been put there by Manson himself. \nWe will take a break and share our spooky stories when we reach the family cave located in a creek bed near the pass road. Spahn Ranch itself is overgrown and not easy to walk through but I will point out where it’s located which is not far from the cave. \nDetails \n\nHigh winds\, rain\, hot weather\, or fire will cancel this hike\nSunset: 6:09pm.
By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. \n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \n• Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.
