SUMMARY:Vista Del Mar/ Twin Ponds (Dos Vientos) 4mi | Easy/Mod COSF CHALLENGE TRAIL
DESCRIPTION:Dos Vientos – Vista Del Mar Loop \nHighlights\nWe will be hiking as an out/back approx 4mi/700’\nThe Twin Ponds\, roughly half way along Vista Del Mar Trail. If there was a substantial\namount of rain the preceding winter\, there will be waterfowl in the ponds.\nThe view is constantly changing on these hilly trails\, overlooking Dos Vientos for much\nof the loop\, but also overlooking Long Grade Canyon and Camarillo. Boney Mountain is\nvisible in the distance to the south.\nThe Vista Del Mar Trail is a segment of the 2026 Conejo Open Space Challenge \nDescription\nThe route circumnavigates the western half of Dos Vientos\, so that on one side of the trail you can see the neighborhoods but on the other is a view of the Santa Monica Mountains\, Long Grade Canyon\, Camarillo\, Conejo Mountain\, and\, or course\, the Twin Ponds.\nThis loop will give you a better workout than you might expect from only five miles because the trails are pretty hilly so there’s quite a bit of elevation gain. For mountain bikers\, the El Rincon\nTrail is a steep climb\, especially at the bottom.\nIf you would like to see the Twin Ponds without traveling the whole route\, you can park on Via\nRicardo near the northeast end of Vista Del Mar Trail and hike or ride in from there. \nKey Statistics\nDistance: 4 Miles\nCumulative Climbing and Descent: Aproximately 700′.\nPopularity: These trails are very popular\, especially since there are so many connections to the adjacent neighborhoods. You will probably encounter other trail users on your excursion.\nParking: Free at Dos Vientos Community Park on the northwest corner of Rancho Dos\nVientos Drive and Borchard Road.\nTread Surface: Hard packed trails of various widths . Some sections have minor ruts and/or possibly slippery loose sand on top.\nHazards: Watch for poison oak at the side of El Rincon Trail.\nFacilities: Restrooms\, picnic tables and playing fields at Dos Vientos Community Park.\nConnections: To several other trails in Dos Vientos. \nDirections: Dos Vientos Community Park: From the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park\, exit at\nBorchard Road. Drive 3.4 miles and turn into the Dos Vientos Community Park on the right\, just after Via Ricardo (and before Via Las Brisas). \nMap: https://tinyurl.com/3vuj7qu
