SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike include waterfalls incorporating 40’ Paradise waterfalls along with a long creek\, Indian caves\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. Currently\, it’s very beautiful with an abundance of wildflowers and California poppies in addition to powerful waterfalls. \nIt will start at Moonridge Trail and pass through various trails with bridges\, waterfalls\, crossing streams and tree canopies over approximately 5-6 miles with about a 1000’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections:\nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace**\,** or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

SUMMARY:Thrilling Tuesday Hike: Whiteface! - 5:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:This is a requested event by several members that I was supposed to schedule last year…sorry for the delay! \nThis is my all time favorite hike in the local area and for about a three year period I hiked it 4-5 times a week. While it is a relatively short hike at around 1 mile each way\, the elevation gain is around 800′.\nI used this hike for my fitness training and still have the unofficial world record at 28:28 round trip…unfortunately today (3/15/26) it took me 35 minutes just to make the assent. The trail conditions have deteriorated over the years and I am a tad older! Which reminds me of what my Dad says\, “The older I get\, the better I use to be!”. One of my favorite songs is also titled “The Older I Get”\, by Alan Jackson. It has a slightly different meaning and one that really resonates with me… \nPLEASE NOTE: No beginners…..\nMust be comfortable hiking a demanding route on a steep ridge and you need to wear lugged shoe soles because its very slippery in some sections.\nWhen you sign up you will automatically go on the wait-list and I will make the decision to move people to “Going”. \nhttps://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/c/7/c/600_453940060.jpeg \nWhiteface is the aptly named white cliff with several trees you see when looking North up Sycamore Dr.\nWhile it is short\, it will definitely give your heart\, lungs and legs a good workout. There are some very steep sections with some rock scrambling (bring gloves if you have sensitive pinkies) and areas of severe drop-offs. So if your afraid of heights this hike is not for you…but believe me the views are worth a little scare! \nWe won’t be lingering too long at the top and we will try to be back at our cars no later than dusk\, which is 7:30 p.m. (The park officially closes at 10:00 p.m.) \nWe will meet in the lower of the two parking areas up near the dog park\, but please don’t bring your dog on the hike! \n• Total mileage: Approx. 2 mi. \n• Elevation gain: 750’+ \n• What to bring: 1-2 liters of water\, energy snacks\, hiking shoes/boots\, gloves for your pinkies and a flashlight just in case. \n• Parking: Lower of the two parking areas nearest to the dog park. \nDriving directions from: E. Simi Valley/S.F. Valley take the 118 Freeway. West\, exit Tapo Canyon Rd. turn right and head North approx. 1.7 mi.\, turn left on Lost Canyons Dr.\, head West approx. 2.1 mi.\, turn right into Big Sky Park and drive to upper Dog Park area. \nDriving directions from: W. Simi Valley/Conejo Valley take the 118 Freeway. East\, exit Erringer Rd. turn left and head North approx. 1.1 mi.\, turn right on Lost Canyons Dr.\, head East approx. .9 mi.\, turn left into Big Sky Park and drive to upper Dog Park area. \nDisclaimer / Release of Liability: You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. This Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Ray Miller Trail hike ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:The trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines (guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.\nPlease consider bringing mosquito spray as they may be present.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Oakbrook Vista - Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:3.2 miles\, 900′ gain\, Intermediate. \nThe first part is a steady incline\, followed by a rolling trail to our destination. Fit beginners can complete this hike\, but it will certainly get their blood pumping. There are no super steep sections. \nThis hike takes us to a secret spot below a large rock formation. Naturally into the side of the rock is a half-globe carved out of it\, giving us a quasi-cave area to sit and have our social event. \nThis is not a conditioning hike\, it’s a social hike. We’ll be stopping at various points to let people catch up and to make sure they make any turns. We’ll stop at the turn around point for a social event lasting 30 – 60 minutes\, where we will share snacks and beverages. \nThe Route \nHike\nDistance: 3.2 miles\nGain: 900′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is in the first half.\nDifficulty\nShape: Out and Back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Double track\, single track.\nTrail Variations:\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes\, about a block from the start.\nDrinking Fountains: Maybe by the restrooms.\nParking: Park in the street. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. Not required\, but recommended.\nFlashlight or headlamp.\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share \nHosting\nRoute: The host knows the route. A pic of the route has been posted. \nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed. \nHike type: Social.\nWe won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. \nStops: The host may designate stopping points to let others catch up. This hike will include an extended stop for a Snack and Beverage Share at the half way point. We will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda or some sticks in the shape of an arrow. There may not always be a sweeper designated to be the last hiker. \nEach hiker is responsible for knowing their capability\, only attending events where they are able to sustain the described pace\, for keeping up with the group sufficiently enough to make the turns and not get left behind\, and for making sure the host is notified if they are going to split from the group. \nGroup separation: Sometimes hikers wish to move significantly ahead and not wait at designated stopping points. Please let the host know. They are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nInteresting Notes\nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nManzanita\nRounded leaves. Redish trunk and stems. Hard wood. Lots of curves. People used to spray this tree with lacquer and mount on their walls like a “tree of life” for decoration. \nSticky Monkeyflower\nOf the Snapdragon family. The flowers are supposed to resemble a laughing monkey’s face. Leaves are very sticky on the underside. \nDirections\nOakbrook Vista Trailhead\n3222 Lang Ranch Pkwy.\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91362\nCoordinates of trailhead: 34.212466\, -118.820325 \nFrom CA-23\nExit 15 Avenida de Los Arboles.\nEast on Avenida de Los Arboles until it ends\, 1.6 miles.\nRight (south) on N. SUMMARY:Chumash Early Spring hike at 6pm Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Gaining a little daylight on the Chumash Feb 26\, 2026. Thank you Jimbo \nThe long winter on the Chumash is coming to a close. At least half of the hike will now be in daylight. By this time Thursday you should have figured out you forgot to set your clocks ahead and no excuses for showing up an hour early will be entertained. \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley every Thursday night since the Jurassic Period\, and he’ll be leading this event until the Ice Age\, i.e. this hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. When you get to the ‘slippery’ part just over a mile up\, ask him who was responsible for Kurt breaking his ankle there in 2012\, but don’t believe whatever he tells you. (Just kidding\, Mark\, don’t get touchy!)\nNote: Kurt will not be attending except for when he visits from Michigan. \nDistance: 5.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 1200′\nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners\nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on Flanagan\nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark\nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer)\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Santa Rosa Trail Loop through Box Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Come join us Wednesday\, March 18 for an afternoon/evening workout hike!\nWe start on time at Wildwood Park where there are a ton of trails. We will be veering right at the Santa Rosa Trail/Box Canyon sign and go up a steep incline\, which is about 1 mile to the top. If you are a beginner you could do the hill and then turn around to make it a heart-pounding 2 mile hike. The rest of us will keep going at a good pace as the trail loops around so you can see Santa Rosa Valley/Camarillo and then back to the trailhead in Wildwood. \nDistance: 6.3 miles \nElevation Gain: 1000+ \nDifficulty: Intermediate Hike. If a Beginner tags along they should turn around at the top and not do the loop. Please do not expect us to wait for you. \nDogs: No \nRestrooms: There is a pit toilet at the trailhead \nWater Fountain: no \nParking: Free parking lot just note when the gate closes for the night \nTrail: This is a loop trail unless you just want to do 2 miles up to the ridge and back. \nSunset: 7:05 pm bring flashlight/headlamp or charged phone for a light\, even though you might not need it\, always good to have light just in case. \nWeather: It can always start out warm at this trailhead since there is no shade. \n\nHike may be cancelled a few hours before event due to extreme weather or if less than 2 besides the leader are signed up.\nPlease pay attention to the comments the day of since we are going into a heatwave in the days before the hike.\n\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes and poison oak can be at this trail. Watch what plants you brush up against and be aware that snakes co exist here. \nBring: Flashlight/headlamp\, water and a personal snack. You may want sunscreen/sunglasses or hat starting out and an extra layer in case you get cold on the way back. We can take a 5-10 minute break at the bottom which is a little more than halfway\, and the picnic bench is back! \nBring lots of water I recommend 2-3 liters. It is always good to bring more that you need and get practice carrying it. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Mt. McCoy
DESCRIPTION:Easy Intermediate\, 3 miles\, 600′ gain\nEasier Option: 2.4 mi\, 530′ gain. 5 Washburn St\, Simi Valley\, CA 93065 \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot at the northeast corner of Madera and Royal\, just south of the Donut Delite\, on the east side of the Clinicas office. We’ll walk from there to the trailhead at 2 Washburn St. where it meets Los Amigos Ave. \nThe Hike\nEasy end of the Intermediate Spectrum\, due to the 1 mile continuous incline that can get exhausting. A fit beginner can easily complete it. \nWe cross Madera and continue through the neighborhood for about 1/4 mi\, to the intersection of Washburn St. and Los Amigos Ave. This is also the starting point for the easier option. \nWe enter a path behind the houses and proceed for 250′ to the entrance. So far\, there will have been very little elevation gain. \nWe’ll enter a series of switchbacks (zig-zag trail) for 1.2 miles to a large cross at the top. This is a steady climb across the face of the hill\, always in full view of the neighborhood below. Beginners may find this climb difficult to continue at a fast pace. There is nothing wrong with slowing down while faster hikers move ahead\, or resting for a minute several times during this climb. \nIt may seem easy to get lost because there are many different cross-paths up the face of this hill\, but they all lead to the same place. Generally\, whenever there is a choice of “left or right”\, we take the easier and more worn path. If you happen to find yourself alone and take a wrong turn (aka steep cut)\, all paths lead up. \nAt the top by the cross or one of the nearby benches\, we’ll enjoy the gorgeous 360 degree views and share beverages and/or snacks. \nInteresting Notes\nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nBlack Sage\nMultiple brown buttons going up the top of the stalk\, that may have white flowers. Green leaves. Purple or white flowers that are dark brown as they dry on the plant. Squish the leaves and smell. \nA rare and sought after Black sage honey is also made from the honey of bees that pollinate the Black sage plant. Black sage is utilized in the culinary world as an aromatic and flavorful herb. It can be used in recipes wherever traditional sage is called for\, however keep in mind that foraged Black sage has a much stronger flavor than that of traditional store bought sage. \nIts flavor goes well with winter squashes\, brown butter\, poultry\, venison\, pears\, cheese\, potatoes and other herbs such as rosemary and thyme. Use fresh in a variety of different preparations or leaves. Can be dried and stored for future use as a dried herb. Black sage was used traditionally by Native Americans known as the Chumash people to form an herbal soak for the bath to be used in the treatment of bodily pain\, specifically for the feet and lower legs. \nPurple Sage\nGrey-green leaves. Aromatic when crushed. Purple flowers. Aka\, Tobacco Sage\, with mild hallucinogenic properties when smoked. Can be used as a spice or made into a tea. Tea has medicinal affects: Antiviral\, gargle for sore throats\, reduce hay fever symptoms and other drying actions. \nDistance: 3 miles (round trip)\nElevation Gain: 700′\nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate\nDuration: 3 1/2 hours\nPace: 2.0 mph\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes – at nearby places of business\nDrinking Fountains: Yes – at nearby places of business\nParking: Free\nTrail: Mostly single-track\, excellent condition\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK. \nWhat to Bring\n1-2 liters of water.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share\nHiking shoes preferred\, but athletic shoes will be OK.\nFlashlight or headlamp. \nDirections\nFor those doing the regular route:\n1424 Madera Rd\, Simi Valley\, CA 93065 \nFor those doing the easier option:\nPark on the street near 5 Washburn St\, Simi Valley\, CA 93065 \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:Oak Creek Canyon to Robles West In/Out ~ Gentler Intermediate

The all-access trail is shaded by a canopy of oaks\, while the loop trail spends more time in the chaparral.\nWe will start at Oak Creek Canyon and proceed to a connector trail a short distance until we meet a junction with Los Robles Trail West (AKA “Space Mountain”). “Space Mountain” gets its name from the switchbacks. You’ll travel through a couple of very nice oak groves\, and get some great views throughout in the Robles Open Space. Then\, we will turn around right before a steep downhill section with sharp switchbacks (prior to where the trail crosses a private road) and head back to our cars. \nThis hike will be about 5-6 miles In/Out with approximately 1000’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirection: From the 101 freeway\, drive to the south end of Moorpark Rd\, turn right on Greenmeadow Ave.\, and go a half mile to the parking lot. \nPLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY
Please review the guidelines (guidelines) to join our hikes.
Restrictions apply for your safety and ours:
• Don’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.
• Plan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.
DISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY
The hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Poppies!
DESCRIPTION:The poppies and other flowers are abundant at what we often refer to as the Westlake YMCA – officially at the Westlake Village Community Park. We will head up into the hills west of Lindero Canyon Road via the Wishbone Trail and on to the Bowfield Trail. If the heat doesn’t wipe us out\, we’ll do a full 6 miles roundtrip from the parking lot to Bowfield Street…giving us a good climb at both the start and the middle of the hike. If it’s too brutal\, we’ll turn around to make it a 5 mile hike. We will venture off the groomed trail onto a use trail into fields of poppies…it’s worth it\, trust me. \nThis route is about 6 miles with an elevation gain of about 1600’ (guessing here as I patch together some different device readings.) \nI hiked the route twice in the last two weeks and the poppies were spectacular. Keep your fingers crossed that the heat hasn’t changed that! \nBring lots of water and whatever you need to stay cool. The trail is exposed. \nDIRECTIONS: Find the trailhead by exiting 101 at Lindero Canyon\, and go north to Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Turn left\, and immediately turn slightly right\, and uphill\, to the community park high above TO Boulevard. At the top\, turn left\, and drive to the far left (west) end of the ball fields.\nDo NOT leave anything of value in your car\, at this or any other trailhead. \nPlease review the ongoing guidelines to participate in our morning hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:\nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours:\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nNo dogs on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike with the group\, or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Sunday 5pm 5pm 5pm! - Rocky Peak Sunset hike
DESCRIPTION:Help prepare for the upcoming swimsuit season with a hike up the Rocky Peak trail Sunday afternoon.\nPic is Sunset on the Rocky Peak trail Oct 2023. Thank you Teka\, \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike in every Sunday afternoon for over 20 years\, and he’ll be leading this event as long as he keeps getting large annual hike-organizer pay raises. This hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire (or Mark sprains his knee). \nThis is a fire road with great views of the valleys and scenic rock formations all along. It starts out steep\, moderates for a while with some flat spots\, undulates easily for a while\, then a final steady grade (but not too steep) to the lemonade stand at the top. The lemonade stand operators apologize for never being there when youre hot and thirsty\, or not. \nDistance: 5.0 miles (I think anyway\, but 4.9 semi officially). \nElevation Gain: 1200′ \nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners \nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed \nRestrooms: No \nWater Fountain: No \nParking: Free at trailhead \nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, rugged \nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring: \nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark \nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer) \nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. \n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \n• Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.

SUMMARY:White Mountain Hike with Ella - A Mellow 5-Peaks Summit!
DESCRIPTION:Tick off another 5-Peaks Challenge summit with a mellow hike up White Mountain!\nJoin us for a late-morning hike and picnic at White Mountain and the Rock Garden. The Rock Garden is a hidden boulder field perched on a ridge overlooking Santa Barbara. If the day is clear and the marine layer is minimal\, we will be gifted grand views of the ocean and the Channel Islands. It can be reached by a short hike of less than a mile from the top of Gibraltar Road. This will give us plenty of time to explore and wander amongst the boulders and beautiful pine trees. Please bring a snack. We’ll find the boulder with the best view to climb on top of to enjoy a picnic lunch.\nSign Up for the 5 Peaks Challenge Here: https://bit.ly/5PeaksChallenge\nDetails:\nDistance ~2 mi\nAscent – 500 ft\nDifficulty – Easy\nTrailhead: Camino Cielo Rd just above Gibraltar Road\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/srM43kGjfBeQe1qVA\nCoordinates: 34°29’27.9″N 119°41’24.7″W\nFrom Santa Barbara\, I recommend taking Gibraltar Road Highway into Los Padres National Forest. Continue for several miles and park on Camino Cielo just above Gibraltar Road. (Use the attached map for precise guidance.) I would drive the way shown on this map.\nThe group will meet at the trailhead at 9:45 AM for a prompt start at 10 AM. Please arrive on time to respect everyone’s schedule. Wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes\, and dress in layers for changing temperatures. Most of the trail is exposed to the sun\, so bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen. Bring a snack and 1-2L of water.\nNote: Rain or low attendance cancels the hike.\nGroup organizers assume no liability; hike at your own risk. By participating in this hike\, you agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from this activity. Neither the group’s leaders nor any third party will be held liable for any injury\, loss\, or damage. Participation is based on an “at will” basis.\nPLEASE DONATE\nIf you would like to support the maintenance of the trails\, please consider donating to the Trails Council’s trail fund: https://sbtrails.org/our-work/donations/

SUMMARY:Tapo Canyon and Wildflowers\, Simi Valley
DESCRIPTION:This is a moderate 4.5 mile hike with an elevation gain of 800’\, suitable for fit-beginners. \nThe Hike\nMy hikes are slow paced (1.5-2 mph) and the listed end time is only an estimate. We take breaks\, we explore\, and we don’t leave anyone behind. If this hike isn’t for you\, please find another that best suits your needs. \nMeet me at the trailhead (see map in the photo gallery) at 6:00\, we’ll start at 6:05. \nIt is not a difficult hike because the elevation gain is rather mild\, and it’s mostly spread out over the whole area with gradual climbs with a moderately steeper climb coming out of the canyon. \nFrom the trail head\, we’ll hike about ½ mile on level ground followed by a steady and gradual 1 mile climb to the junction at the top. Then we will hike a small hill\, take a breather and enjoy the views\, and head down into the canyon. \nComing back\, we will hike out of the canyon to the junction which is a moderately steep climb but doable for beginners. At the junction\, we’ll hike about 1½ miles back to the trailhead. \nSunset is at 7:00pm\, last light is at 7:25pm. Bring your flashlights. \nEssentials \n\nVentura County Search and Rescue (SAR) 10 Essentials\nBring 2 liters of water\, flashlights\, snacks\, electrolytes\nBring your hiking poles if needed.\nWear good hiking boots/shoes\, sunscreen\, hat\nBring a jacket for cooler weather\nBug spray\n\nOther Details \n\nTrail: fire road\, single track\nDogs: On a leash per state law\nRestrooms: Behind a rock\nWater Fountain: None\nParking: Free\nKnown Dangers: Slip-‘n-fall\, rattlesnakes and tarantulas\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n\nGoogle Coordinates: 34.304793\, -118.720323\nClick to view the Google Map\nSee a screenshot of the map in the photo gallery\n\nThe trailhead is on the right side of the road on Tapo Canyon. It is about 450 feet\, or one minute\, before Lost Canyon Drive. Lost Canyon Drive has a street light on the corner. Turn around if you end up at that corner. \nFrom the 118:\nExit Tapo Canyon Rd.\nDrive north on Tapo Canyon Rd. for 1.7 miles.\nThe trail head is on the right.\nParking is free in the gravel area in front of the trail head\, and along the road on both sides. \nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n\nYou must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\nThe PM Hiker organizers are not trained leaders and do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips.\nIf you sign up for any event\, you are releasing the PM Hiker organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\nHiking and other outdoor events can be dangerous\, and accidents can happen.\nPer Meetup rules\, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being. SUMMARY:Sycamore Canyon Hike from the Ocean - a Gentler Hike
DESCRIPTION:HIKE DETAILS:\nIt will be hot on Thursday\, so we’ll stay near the ocean. This will be an easier intermediate hike\, with less elevation gain\, less miles\, and slower. \nThis hike will go from the beach up to the picnic table on the fire road\, approximately 5.5 miles. Most of the hike is exposed\, so cover up and bring plenty of water. No dogs. \nWe will meet in the Day Use parking lot at Sycamore Canyon Campground\, passes will work. We will start off along the main Sycamore Canyon road and turn up to the fire road where we will climb up to the picnic table. We will then follow the fire road back down to the parking lot\, so out and back. \nDirections: \nWe will be meeting at the Sycamore Canyon Campground and day use parking area on Pacific Coast Hwy. This trailhead and parking area is about a mile south from the La Jolla Canyon Parking area where we go to hike the Ray Miller Trail and just across from the campground. \nState permit parking passes should work\, also parking is available in the campground for $12. There may not be free parking on PCH. \nThere are also restrooms at the day parking lot. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Mr. Toad's Wild(wood) Ride - A Gentler Hike - 8:30AM
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve ever read “Wind in the Willows” you’ll know just how much fooling around in beautiful creeks and rivers plays a part in the story of Mr. Toad and his friends. \nThis hike will follow the various forks of the Arroyo Conejo and Indian Creeks around Wildwood Park. The creeks have been flowing well\, with lots of water falling over Paradise Falls. We’ll scootch through a tiny cave\, and see a nice variety of wildflowers. We’ll also see the Lynnmere Loop trail\, but from across the arroyo. \nWe will start at the parking lot at Canna Street and Timberwood Avenue (see map)\, and skirt the soccer fields and walk through a tunnel to get into Wildwood Park. We’ll do a big lazy figure 8 loop along the creekside trails\, and wind back at the cars about 5 miles / 600 ft. later. \nNOTE: Please review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:\nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nThere are no “Plus One’s” on this hike.\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\nPlan on completing the entire hike at an gentler (~2.5 mph) pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs allowed.\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Wednesday Evening Hike: Montecito Peak
DESCRIPTION:This week: Montecito Peak. Meet at Big 5 at 6:00p for the shuttle to Trailhead. We’ll climb up Cold Springs Ridge Trail (optional Boy Scout bypass and the narrow trail to the little peak there). From there we’ll ascend Cold Springs trail until we reach the steep\, kitty litter trail up to Montecito Peak. Return the main Cold Springs trail to trailhead\, stepping through water passages in the dark. Alternately we may decide up the creek\, down the ridge. Game day decision.\nDistance – 6.59 mi\nAscent – 2511ft\nWater crossings – YES (Step over)\nRock scrambling – NO\nBush whacking – YES (push aside\, not climb through)\nMaximum Grade – >25%\nOverall Effort – Hard\nStrava Effort – 2.2x \nCarpool Spot: Big 5 North lot at 6:00\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/pkfrwbwnWmEP5zC88 \nTrailhead: Cold Springs Trailhead 6:30 (but please do carpool!)\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/y6VQzM5kerD7VFdz9 \nStrava link\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3276034628776663106 \nHike Leader this week will be Kevin Hanrahan. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. For questions\, Kevin can be reached via text at 805-895-5655. \nAbout Wednesday Evening Hike series\nWe will meet at 6:30p at the trailhead unless otherwise noted for that week. We sometimes carpool to trails up to 45 minutes away. We attempt to vary the trails selecting amongst those that are open and in hike-worthy condition. We hike the front country\, the backside of the front range and occasionally adventure even further. Hikes are typically in the 6-9 mile range with 1500-3000 ft of total ascent. Occasionally we’ll mix in a harder hike where returns can be very late. These hikes are meant for those with some hiking experience and moderate athletic condition. The pace varies and larger groups usually split\, but we will re-group at intersections and stick together where the path is ‘iffy’. Please dress appropriately with hiking boots/shoes and comfortable clothes meant to get sweaty and possible wet. Headlamp and/or flashlight required. Bring a water resistant jacket for rain/gloom or just cold air which is frequent at altitude. We recommend 1-3L water bladder in a backpack depending upon trail difficulty so that your hands are free to cross water or scramble up/down rocks. Bug spray is a good idea as bugs are very active at dusk (better to have and not need.) Some folks bring hiking poles. I recommend long sleeves and pants to prevent scratches\, poison oak and ticks. \nWe typically stop at the top\, add a layer for warmth and enjoy a snack. This can be some of the best fun as folks drag up hot tea\, other libations\, and all sorts of baked goods to share. Yum! \nGroup organizers assume no liability; hike at your own risk. By being a member of this group\, you hereby agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from any group functions. You agree that you nor any third party will hold any of the group’s leaders liable for any injury\, loss\, or damage to your own self or property arising directly or as a consequence of a group activity. You also agree that your membership of this group is based on an “at will” basis.

SUMMARY:Las Llajas Canyon to an Abandoned Mining Operation Hike
DESCRIPTION:Time to get back hiking now that the clocks are changing! Join me Wednesday\, March 11 to hike the canyon and then go up to the old Cochina Mine. There should be some lovely green and flowers along the way.\nThis group usually does not hike at a slow pace so please keep that in mind if joining.\nStarting out Las Llajas Canyon Trail is fairly easy but it does become a moderately difficult hike if you decide to hike up to the mine area. As a group we can decide if we are up to going up the hill to the mine or not\, so it will depend on how we feel due to weather\, light etc and if we can stay together. If we go to the mine it might be more like 7 miles. You can always decide to stay in the canyon and do the easy route and we can decide as a group if we want to go a little further. Do note that we won’t wait too long if you are behind a good distance but would keep going.\nThe mine at the top still has some shells and interesting relics! Each time I go I see or learn something different about the place. \nThis hike should probably only take about 2 hours at my pace but allow for 3 just in case! We will take a short break to explore the mine area and then head back the way we came. It will probably be dark on the way back so please make sure you have a light. The hill up to the mine is steep and not for beginners\, The canyon portion is easy and scenic but please wear shoes appropriate for hiking with good tread. \nDistance: 6 miles (or more depending on what you decide) \nElevation Gain: 1000′ \nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate \nDogs: no \nRestrooms: no \nWater Fountain: No \nTrail: Out and back \nSunset: 7:00pm please bring a light or charged phone as it will be dark on the way back.\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes can be on this trail so beware! Something else occasionally sighted here depending on the time of year are wandering steers since the trail is in a ranching area. Slip-‘n-fall is always possible so please wear good shoes or use poles if you wish to\, poison oak may also be on the trail so watch what you brush up against. \nBring: \n\nPlease bring at minimum a water bottle of at least a liter\, a mistake beginners often make is thinking it is cool or easier so they do not need much water. I would rather carry it and not need it than not have it.\nAn optional snack if you think you need one for when we take a little break at the mine or at our halfway turn around point.\nFlashlight/headlamp\nHat or sunglasses if you feel you need them since we start in daylight\nAn extra layer to put on and off\, when you stop it can get chilly!\n\nThis hike will be cancelled: if it is excessively hot\, windy\, rainy or if less than 2 people besides myself are signed up by the afternoon of the event. \nDriving directions and parking: 118 Yosemite offramp go toward the hills and turn right at Evening Sky\, trailhead on the left. Park on the street but watch the signs for the sections that say no parking. SUMMARY:Intermediate 8 miles ~ Ray Miller Trail and Overlook Trail in Malibu

We’ll pick up about 1300’ gain on this 8 mile adventure. \nLying along the brilliant blue Pacific Ocean at the west end of Malibu (just shy of Port Hueneme)\, the swelling blue ocean is rivaled in beauty by the undulating native California grasslands. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight. \nMost of the trail is exposed\, so sunscreen is highly recommended and plenty of water. \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot near the Ray Miller Trailhead (look for the brilliant yellow sign). There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the parking area. \nhttps://a248.e.akamai.net/secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/7/4/a/event_93326442.jpeg \nPlease review the ongoing guidelines to participate in our morning hikes.
