SUMMARY:Chumash Early Spring hike at 6pm Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Gaining a little daylight on the Chumash Feb 26\, 2026. Thank you Jimbo \nThe long winter on the Chumash is coming to a close. At least half of the hike will now be in daylight. By this time Thursday you should have figured out you forgot to set your clocks ahead and no excuses for showing up an hour early will be entertained. \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley every Thursday night since the Jurassic Period\, and he’ll be leading this event until the Ice Age\, i.e. this hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. When you get to the ‘slippery’ part just over a mile up\, ask him who was responsible for Kurt breaking his ankle there in 2012\, but don’t believe whatever he tells you. (Just kidding\, Mark\, don’t get touchy!)\nNote: Kurt will not be attending except for when he visits from Michigan. \nDistance: 5.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 1200′\nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners\nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on Flanagan\nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark\nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer)\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being.\n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions.\n• Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.

SUMMARY:Oakbrook Vista - Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:3.2 miles\, 900′ gain\, Intermediate. \nThe first part is a steady incline\, followed by a rolling trail to our destination. Fit beginners can complete this hike\, but it will certainly get their blood pumping. There are no super steep sections. \nThis hike takes us to a secret spot below a large rock formation. Naturally into the side of the rock is a half-globe carved out of it\, giving us a quasi-cave area to sit and have our social event. \nThis is not a conditioning hike\, it’s a social hike. We’ll be stopping at various points to let people catch up and to make sure they make any turns. We’ll stop at the turn around point for a social event lasting 30 – 60 minutes\, where we will share snacks and beverages. \nThe Route \nHike\nDistance: 3.2 miles\nGain: 900′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is in the first half.\nDifficulty\nShape: Out and Back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Double track\, single track.\nTrail Variations:\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes\, about a block from the start.\nDrinking Fountains: Maybe by the restrooms.\nParking: Park in the street. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. Not required\, but recommended.\nFlashlight or headlamp.\nSunscreen and/or hat as needed.\nSnacks and/or beverages to share \nHosting\nRoute: The host knows the route. A pic of the route has been posted. \nNavigation: Host memory\, enhanced by GPS navigation as needed. \nHike type: Social.\nWe won’t be hiking at a fast pace because this is a social hike\, not a conditioning hike. There is nothing wrong with stopping\, even if it means every 50 steps. \nStops: The host may designate stopping points to let others catch up. This hike will include an extended stop for a Snack and Beverage Share at the half way point. We will stop at junctions to make sure everybody makes any turns or chooses the correct direction at splits\, else something will be used to mark the direction\, usually a large arrow made of baking soda or some sticks in the shape of an arrow. There may not always be a sweeper designated to be the last hiker. \nEach hiker is responsible for knowing their capability\, only attending events where they are able to sustain the described pace\, for keeping up with the group sufficiently enough to make the turns and not get left behind\, and for making sure the host is notified if they are going to split from the group. \nGroup separation: Sometimes hikers wish to move significantly ahead and not wait at designated stopping points. Please let the host know. They are on their own regarding route and navigation. \nInteresting Notes\nHere are a couple plants you are sure to see on this hike: \nManzanita\nRounded leaves. Redish trunk and stems. Hard wood. Lots of curves. People used to spray this tree with lacquer and mount on their walls like a “tree of life” for decoration. \nSticky Monkeyflower\nOf the Snapdragon family. The flowers are supposed to resemble a laughing monkey’s face. Leaves are very sticky on the underside. \nDirections\nOakbrook Vista Trailhead\n3222 Lang Ranch Pkwy.\nThousand Oaks\, CA 91362\nCoordinates of trailhead: 34.212466\, -118.820325 \nFrom CA-23\nExit 15 Avenida de Los Arboles.\nEast on Avenida de Los Arboles until it ends\, 1.6 miles.\nRight (south) on N. Westlake Blvd 0.2 miles.\nLeft (east) on Lang Ranch Pkwy. 0.2 miles.\nPark on street\, trailhead on the right (south) side. \nFAQ\nHiking Plus Page Links\nDisclaimer / Release of Liability

SUMMARY:Ray Miller Trail hike ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:The trail is an awesome blend of ocean and mountain views in Malibu’s La Jolla Canyon. We will start from the trailhead which follows the canyon eastward\, away from the ocean. Then\, it quickly brings you back toward the ocean at a gradual incline. There’s a great lookout spot where it gives you a breathtaking view of the Pacific Coast Highway against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean\, with sweeping views toward Mugu Rock on the west and Sycamore Cove on the east. After another peak\, you’ll start a slight decline that brings you to the fire road where we will turn around. Along the way\, we’ll be treated to magnificent sweeping views of La Jolla and Big Sycamore Canyons\, and of course\, the largest ocean in the world. On a clear day\, the Channel Islands are easily within sight\, although the marine layer has been pretty prominent this summer.\nThis is a 5-6 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000’. \nDirections: \nFrom Los Angeles\, take the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) north\, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Rd. Across the street from Thornhill Broome Beach is the entrance to La Jolla Canyon. It is very clearly marked. Turn right. \nFrom Ventura\, take PCH eastward\, and turn left 4 miles after Las Posas Road into La Jolla Canyon. \nHeads up: There is a parking fee in the lot (or free with state parking pass). There is free parking on PCH just a short walk to the trailhead. \nPlease review the guidelines (guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace.\nPlease consider bringing mosquito spray as they may be present.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. SUMMARY:Thrilling Tuesday Hike: Whiteface! - 5:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:This is a requested event by several members that I was supposed to schedule last year…sorry for the delay! \nThis is my all time favorite hike in the local area and for about a three year period I hiked it 4-5 times a week. While it is a relatively short hike at around 1 mile each way\, the elevation gain is around 800′.\nI used this hike for my fitness training and still have the unofficial world record at 28:28 round trip…unfortunately today (3/15/26) it took me 35 minutes just to make the assent. The trail conditions have deteriorated over the years and I am a tad older! Which reminds me of what my Dad says\, “The older I get\, the better I use to be!”. One of my favorite songs is also titled “The Older I Get”\, by Alan Jackson. It has a slightly different meaning and one that really resonates with me… \nPLEASE NOTE: No beginners…..\nMust be comfortable hiking a demanding route on a steep ridge and you need to wear lugged shoe soles because its very slippery in some sections.\nWhen you sign up you will automatically go on the wait-list and I will make the decision to move people to “Going”. \nhttps://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/c/7/c/600_453940060.jpeg \nWhiteface is the aptly named white cliff with several trees you see when looking North up Sycamore Dr.\nWhile it is short\, it will definitely give your heart\, lungs and legs a good workout. There are some very steep sections with some rock scrambling (bring gloves if you have sensitive pinkies) and areas of severe drop-offs. So if your afraid of heights this hike is not for you…but believe me the views are worth a little scare! \nWe won’t be lingering too long at the top and we will try to be back at our cars no later than dusk\, which is 7:30 p.m. (The park officially closes at 10:00 p.m.) \nWe will meet in the lower of the two parking areas up near the dog park\, but please don’t bring your dog on the hike! \n• Total mileage: Approx. 2 mi. \n• Elevation gain: 750’+ \n• What to bring: 1-2 liters of water\, energy snacks\, hiking shoes/boots\, gloves for your pinkies and a flashlight just in case. \n• Parking: Lower of the two parking areas nearest to the dog park. \nDriving directions from: E. Simi Valley/S.F. Valley take the 118 Freeway. West\, exit Tapo Canyon Rd. turn right and head North approx. 1.7 mi.\, turn left on Lost Canyons Dr.\, head West approx. 2.1 mi.\, turn right into Big Sky Park and drive to upper Dog Park area. \nDriving directions from: W. Simi Valley/Conejo Valley take the 118 Freeway. East\, exit Erringer Rd. turn left and head North approx. 1.1 mi.\, turn right on Lost Canyons Dr.\, head East approx. .9 mi.\, turn left into Big Sky Park and drive to upper Dog Park area. \nDisclaimer / Release of Liability: You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike include waterfalls incorporating 40’ Paradise waterfalls along with a long creek\, Indian caves\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. Currently\, it’s very beautiful with an abundance of wildflowers and California poppies in addition to powerful waterfalls. \nIt will start at Moonridge Trail and pass through various trails with bridges\, waterfalls\, crossing streams and tree canopies over approximately 5-6 miles with about a 1000’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections:\nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace**\,** or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group.
