SUMMARY:"Off the Grid " Improv at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum
DESCRIPTION:Theatricum Botanicum has a resident improv comedy troupe called “Off The Grid”. For this event we’re going to see their show. The only hiking will likely be the trip from where you parked your car to the venue itself. \nWe just saw the August show and it was very funny. It’s actually held in a smaller stage and not the main Theatricum stage. \nThe show begins at 7:30 pm but we generally arrive by 6 pm or earlier to eat before the play starts. Several of us have been going there for plays and it’s always great to get together with friends there before the show. \nThere are tables and chairs near the snack bar in the garden. Bring your own food and drink. It’s unlikely that you will be able to buy food there for this performance. \nI’ll be in the garden around 6:00 pm. If I don’t see you there\, I’ll see you in the theater. \nYou can order your tickets here:\nORDER TICKETS HERE! (<- click this link) \n\nPlease order your ticket before you RSVP\n\nTicket Prices are $15 + $1 handling fee\, so $16 total.\nThis performance is general admission. \nImportant details: \n\nParking is available for free along Topanga Canyon Blvd\nLimited parking is available in the Theatricum lot for $10 per car. This fee is waived for guests with handicap placards. Though for the last Improv performance\, the parking lot fee was waived.\nBring a cushion to sit on.\nBring a jacket/blanket for cooler weather\nBring your own food and drink. \,\n\nDIRECTIONS:\nAddress: 1419 N Topanga Canyon Blvd\, about 5.5 miles from the 101\nGoogle Coordinates: 34.111264\, -118.592047 \nDriving directions taken from the website:\nFrom the 101\nTake the Topanga Cyn Blvd exit S. Continue South on Topanga Cyn Blvd for approximately 5.5 miles. Theatricum Botanicum will be on your right.\nFrom the PCH\nGo north on Topanga Canyon Blvd and continue for approximately 6.4 miles. Theatricum Botanicum will be on your left. \nA little history\nWill Geer (Grandpa Walton) founded the Theatricum Botanicum (a garden theater) in 1973. Set in a natural open-air amphitheater in Topanga Canyon\, he began a series of performances that include William Shakespeare’s plays\, modern plays and music concerts.\nhttps://theatricum.com/our-story/

SUMMARY:Chumash trail sunset hike at 5:30 5:30 5:30 pm Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Sun going down from top of the Chumash trail on July 24\, 2025. Thank you Aimee \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley every Thursday night since the Jurassic Period\, and he’ll be leading this event until the Ice Age\, i.e. this hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. When you get to the ‘slippery’ part just over a mile up\, ask him who was responsible for Kurt breaking his ankle there in 2012\, but don’t believe whatever he tells you. (Just kidding\, Mark\, don’t get touchy!)\nNote: Kurt will not be attending except for when he visits from Michigan. \nDistance: 5.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 1200′\nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners\nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on Flanagan\nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark\nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer)\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being.\n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. SUMMARY:Las Llajas Canyon to an Abandoned Mining Operation Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join me Wednesday\, September 24 to hike the canyon and then go up to the old Cochina Mine. This group usually does not hike at a slow pace so please keep that in mind if joining.\nLast time we decided to turn around because it was too hot so by request want to give one more try to get to the mine area before we lose our evening daylight!\nStarting out Las Llajas Canyon Trail is fairly easy but it does become a moderately difficult hike if you decide to hike up to the mine area. As a group we can decide if we are up to going up the hill to the mine or not\, so it will depend on how we feel due to weather\, light etc and if we can stay together. If we go to the mine it might be more like 7 miles. You can always decide to stay in the canyon and do the easy route and we can decide as a group if we want to go a little further.\nThe mine at the top still has some shells and interesting relics! Each time I go I see or learn something different about the place. \nThis hike should probably only take about 2 hours at my pace but allow for 3 just in case! We will take a short break to explore the mine area and then head back the way we came. It will probably be dark on the way back so please make sure you have a light. The hill up to the mine is steep and not for beginners\, The canyon portion is easy and scenic but please wear shoes appropriate for hiking with good tread. \nDistance: 6 miles (or more depending on what you decide) \nElevation Gain: 1000′ \nDifficulty: Easy Intermediate \nDogs: no \nRestrooms: no \nWater Fountain: No \nTrail: Out and back \nSunset: 6:48 pm please bring a light or charged phone as it will be dark on the way back.\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes can be on this trail so beware! Something else occasionally sighted here depending on the time of year are wandering steers since the trail is in a ranching area. Slip-‘n-fall is always possible so please wear good shoes or use poles if you wish to\, poison oak may also be on the trail so watch what you brush up against. \nBring: \n\nPlease bring at minimum a water bottle of at least a liter\, a mistake beginners often make is thinking it is cool or easier so they do not need much water. I would rather carry it and not need it than not have it.\nAn optional snack if you think you need one for when we take a little break at the mine or at our halfway turn around point.\nFlashlight/headlamp\nHat or sunglasses if you feel you need them since we start in daylight\nAn extra layer to put on and off\, when you stop it can get chilly!\n\nThis hike will be cancelled: if it is excessively hot\, windy\, rainy or if less than 2 people besides myself are signed up by the afternoon of the event. \nDriving directions and parking: 118 Yosemite offramp go toward the hills and turn right at Evening Sky\, trailhead on the left. Park on the street but watch the signs for the sections that say no parking. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips.
