DESCRIPTION:5:45 PM START TIME – WEDNESDAY NIGHT – This might be the last time for this event before Kim resumes her weekly hike schedule 🙂\nI’ve been get too much couch time lately and need to get my tuckus moving\, so here we go… \nThis is kind of my “go to” hike\, it’s on my way home\, it’s not too long and the views can be spectacular! \nThis is a great weeknight hike\, not too hard nor too easy – I would say it’s “Just Right”! \nAlthough not a true beginner’s hike\, the gain is spread out evenly over the whole climb which makes it fall on the easier end of the intermediate scale (while still being a good workout). There is a great picnic table at the top which makes it perfect place to do a little socializing during these crazy times! . We will try to limit this time to about 15-20 minutes max. so we can get back down at a decent hour (I’m shooting for around 7:30ish)\, so I can grab some afterward…it is during of the week after all! \nIt can also get a bit chilly up there\, even during the warmest weather\, so if you get cold easily bring a jacket\, hat\, gloves\, blanket or other suitable warming device. \nDirections: From the 101 take the Ventu Park exit and go South toward the ocean. At Lynn Road turn right. VERY soon you will pass an open space on your left. Watch for the entrance to Regal Oak Ct on your left\, where you will turn…um…left. Take it all the way to the end and park. This is a neighborhood\, so let’s try to be somewhat restrained. We will meet at the trailhead on the left/east side of the road. \nDistance: 3.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 790′\nDifficulty: Easy to Intermediate\nDogs: Leashed\, per State law\nRestrooms: No\, but there are many bushes\, but please watch out for the (2) patches of poison oak!\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free along the street\nTrail: Single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: 5:54\, so bring a light!!! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes \, those pesky rocks that jump up out of know where\, inconsiderate MTBer’s or people that talk your off!!! \nDisclaimer / Release of Liability: You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. This Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Sunday 4pm - Rocky Peak Sunset hike
DESCRIPTION:Help prepare for the upcoming swimsuit season with a hike up the Rocky Peak trail Sunday afternoon.\nPic is Sunset on the Rocky Peak trail Oct 2023. Thank you Teka\, \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike in every Sunday afternoon for over 20 years\, and he’ll be leading this event as long as he keeps getting large annual hike-organizer pay raises. This hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire (or Mark sprains his knee). \nThis is a fire road with great views of the valleys and scenic rock formations all along. It starts out steep\, moderates for a while with some flat spots\, undulates easily for a while\, then a final steady grade (but not too steep) to the lemonade stand at the top. The lemonade stand operators apologize for never being there when youre hot and thirsty\, or not. \nDistance: 5.0 miles (I think anyway\, but 4.9 semi officially). \nElevation Gain: 1200′ \nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners \nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed \nRestrooms: No \nWater Fountain: No \nParking: Free at trailhead \nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, rugged \nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring: \nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark \nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer) \nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. \n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. Thank you Teka\, \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike in every Sunday afternoon for over 20 years\, and he’ll be leading this event as long as he keeps getting large annual hike-organizer pay raises. SUMMARY:Vasquez Rocks and the Pacific Crest Trail
DESCRIPTION:Let’s burn off those Valentine Day chocolates on one of my favorite trails at Vasquez Rocks. This is a moderate 5-mile hike with an elevation gain of about 554’. \nThe Hike\nMy hikes are slow paced (1.5-2 mph) and the end time is approximate only. We take breaks\, we explore\, and we don’t leave anyone behind. If this hike isn’t for you\, please find another that best suits your needs. Also\, please review the disclaimer below. \nMeet me at the visitor center at 11:45-12:00. We will hang out at the center for about 20 minutes before starting. My estimated start time is 12:20. They have very nice exhibits and restrooms. If there are no parking spots available at the visitor’s center\, keep driving down to the dirt parking lots\, you’ll find more room there. \nFrom the visitor’s center we will make our way west and hike above the valley. We will have views of Vasquez Rocks from another perspective than what we typically see in photos. Eventually we’ll make our way to the junction and turn right onto the PCT trail. We’ll hike along the creek\, into the canyons and take a break at the caves (it’s pretty). Then we’ll continue through the wildlife tunnel (directly below Highway 14) and turn around. We won’t be able to walk through the tunnel if there’s too much water. \nOn our way back through the canyon\, we will turn right at the junction\, continue along the PCT\, make our way to the famous Vasquez rocks\, explore and possibly climb to the top. I will point out where Captain Kirk and the Gorn stood (a perfect spot for a group picture). The hike ends at the Visitor’s Center. \nAfter the hike\, how about a nice Mexican meal at the Maria Bonita Restaurant in the cute town of Agua Dulce\, just up the road from Vasquez? https://www.mariabonitarest.com/ \nThe hike will be cancelled in the event of: \n\nHot weather (85 degrees or higher)\nHigh winds\, rain\, or fire\n\nEssentials \n\nVentura County SARS 10 Essentials\nBring 2 liters of water\, flashlights\, snacks\, electrolytes\nBring your hiking poles if needed.\nWear good hiking boots/shoes\, sunscreen\, hat\nBring a jacket for cooler weather\nBug spray\n\nOther Details \n\nTrail: single track\, fire road\, some rocky terrain\, crossing the creek\nDogs: On a leash per state law\nRestrooms: At the park or behind a rock\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, mountain lions\, bobcats\, tarantulas\, scorpions\, slip-‘n-fall\, poison oak\n\nDirections\nVasquez Rocks Natural Area Park\n10700 Escondido Canyon Rd\, Agua Dulce\, CA 91350\nGoogle Coordinates: 34.488907\, -118.321428\nView the Google Map \nDriving Directions \n\nHead north on the I-5 toward Santa Clarita valley.\nTake exit 162 for State Route 14 North (Antelope Freeway) going toward Lancaster/Palmdale.\nAt about 14.3 miles take exit 15 for Agua Dulce Canyon Road\ncontinue about 5 minutes to the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n\nYou must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\nThe PM Hiker organizers are not trained leaders and do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips.\nIf you sign up for any event\, you are releasing the PM Hiker organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\nHiking and other outdoor events can be dangerous\, and accidents can happen.\nPer Meetup rules\, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being. SUMMARY:Placerita Canyon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Come join me at Placerita Canyon Nature Center for an afternoon hike on the Canyon Trail and then go further to the waterfall. There was water a few weeks ago when I hiked it last\, hard to say if the waterfall is still there as it has been warm and dry the past few weeks and water dries up fast.\nIt is a nice fairly shaded canyon that will be beautiful with flowers and probably some water crossings. We can also decide to turn around a little earlier as you do a little rock climb to get to where the waterfall would be. \n\nDistance: 5.1 miles or maybe a little less if we turn around at base of fall area.\nElevation Gain: about 500 ft\nDifficulty: easy intermediate: I go at a moderate pace only stopping briefly if needed and take a little longer break at the halfway waterfall point.\nDogs: Not preferable due to our pace and the climb to the waterfall\, but they are allowed at the park. We won’t wait for you for your dog’s pitstops.\nRestrooms/water: Yes at the nature center parking area\nParking: free lot but can be crowded\, may need to park a ways from the trail but it is a large lot. Allow time to get there and look at the nature center. I suggest getting there 1:30 if you have not been there before to explore and park.\nTrail: Out and back\, may have some uneven footing\, poles can be helpful as there may be a few water crossings/rock hops\nSunset: 5:37 pm\, plan to be done by 5pm probably won’t need a light\, but never hurts to bring just in case as it is part of the 10 essentials when hiking.\nWeather: Extreme Heat\, high winds\, rain can cancel the hike\nKnown dangers: There is poison oak on this trail\, you can slip and fall on wet rocks\nBring a snack\, water (I suggest at least a liter or more) and sun protection\, polls if you use them and lug sole shoes\, might be wet and slippery (trail runner or hiking shoes highly suggested)\nIf less than 2 besides the leader are signed up by the morning of event it will cancel.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\nYou must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions\nIf you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\nThe organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Chumash Night Magic hike at 6pm Thursday
DESCRIPTION:A silhouette following me down the Chumash. Looks Canadian.\nThe pic is from the top of Chumash trail on Jan 15\, 2025. Thank you Jimbo \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley every Thursday night since the Jurassic Period\, and he’ll be leading this event until the Ice Age\, i.e. this hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. When you get to the ‘slippery’ part just over a mile up\, ask him who was responsible for Kurt breaking his ankle there in 2012\, but don’t believe whatever he tells you. (Just kidding\, Mark\, don’t get touchy!)\nNote: Kurt will not be attending except for when he visits from Michigan. \nDistance: 5.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 1200′\nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners\nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on Flanagan\nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark\nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer)\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Humpday Hike - Vista of the Angels\, a.k.a. Angel Vista via the Rosewood Trail.
DESCRIPTION:5:45 PM START TIME – WEDNESDAY NIGHT\nI’ve been get too much couch time lately and need to get my tuckus moving\, so here we go… \nThis is kind of my “go to” hike\, it’s on my way home\, it’s not too long and the views can be spectacular! There is a great picnic table at the top which makes it perfect place to do a little socializing during these crazy times! . We will try to limit this time to about 15-20 minutes max. so we can get back down at a decent hour (I’m shooting for around 7:30ish)\, so I can grab some 🌮🌮 afterward…it is during of the week after all! \nDistance: 3.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 790′\nDifficulty: Easy to Intermediate\nDogs: Leashed\, per State law\nRestrooms: No\, but there are many bushes\, but please watch out for the (2) patches of poison oak!\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free along the street\nTrail: Single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: 5:15\, so bring a light!!! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes 🐍\, those pesky rocks that jump up out of know where\, inconsiderate MTBer’s or people that talk your 🦵 off!!! SUMMARY:Sycamore Canyon 9 miler from Satwiwa
DESCRIPTION:Come join me for an afternoon 9ish mile exercise hike and an optional snack share.\nThis time we will start in the parking lot to walk a portion of the Sycamore Canyon fire road\, which is very scenic year round and eventually loop around to Danielson Campground\, take a snack break (15-20 minutes) where we can share some snacks/rest at the picnic tables then complete a loop to head back. It might be starting to be very green and beautiful at this time\, but due to rains be prepared for mud puddles/minor water crossings?\nWe will be on pavement or gravel most of the way however I am going to take a side trail to make this a looped 9 mile hike (side trail some call Joanne’s Route). So this hike is a few trails put together in a loop that I have hiked several times. \nDistance: 9 miles (give or take) on Pavement and gravel road \nElevation Gain: about 600 ft \nDifficulty: Intermediate hike due to pace and distance\, but an experienced fast paced beginner or someone willing to go the distance should be able to do it too\, please do not expect anyone to wait for you if you are slower and do not know the way. You can not get lost if you stick to the road. \nDogs: No \nRestrooms: There is at parking lot and Andy Gump toilet mid hike \nWater Fountain: No \nParking: This time since it is daylight we are parking at the far end of Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa. In case lot is full there is overflow parking\, come early just in case to ensure your parking spot. \nTrail: Out and back\, pavement/fireroad this hike goes down at the beginning and up at the end \nSunset: 5:17pm The lot closes at Sunset so we really should be done before then at our pace (all the reason to be at intermediate pace). \nWeather: Adverse Weather conditions will cancel the hike. Come prepared with a light layer in your pack in case you get chilly from all the sweat! (I usually get chilled on the way back and in April it might still be chilly the whole way). \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, poison oak\, Mosquitoes may all be encountered on this hike\, bug spray might be useful here\, possibly due to recent winds and dry weather we won’t encounter them this time. \nIt is always possible to slip and fall though the road is flat wear shoes with a good tread that you can wear on pavement or dirt (hiking or trail runners). \nBring: a personal snack or small snack to share\, light layer and LOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L or more L if you sweat a lot). Bug spray if you think you need it. \nEvent will cancel if on the day of the hike less than two besides the leader is signed up or if Santa Ana winds kick up since I hate hiking in the wind. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions. \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips.
