SUMMARY:Sunday 4pm - Hike with a possible sunset on Rocky Peak Trail
DESCRIPTION:Sunset on the Rocky Peak trail Oct 2023. Thank you Teka\, \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike in every Sunday afternoon for over 20 years\, and he’ll be leading this event as long as he keeps getting large annual hike-organizer pay raises. This hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. The only exception is when it’s on fire (or Mark sprains his knee). \nThis is a fire road with great views of the valleys and scenic rock formations all along. It starts out steep\, moderates for a while with some flat spots\, undulates easily for a while\, then a final steady grade (but not too steep) to the lemonade stand at the top. The lemonade stand operators apologize for never being there when youre hot and thirsty\, or not. \nDistance: 5.0 miles (I think anyway\, but 4.9 semi officially). \nElevation Gain: 1200′ \nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners \nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed \nRestrooms: No \nWater Fountain: No \nParking: Free at trailhead \nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, rugged \nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring: \nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark \nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer) \nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY: \n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries. \n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. By participating in any posted event\, you’re taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. \n• Hiking and other outdoor events are inherently dangerous and accidents can happen. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \n• Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience.

SUMMARY:Chumash Thanksgiving hike
DESCRIPTION:Chumash trail on Nov 14\, 2024. Thank you Jimbo \nFor those who might want to burn off some over indulgence or would just rather hike than eat. This is for you. The only exception is when it’s on fire.\nIt’s mostly a steady climb to where the trail meets with the Rocky Peak Fire Road. When you get to the ‘slippery’ part just over a mile up\, ask him who was responsible for Kurt breaking his ankle there in 2012\, but don’t believe whatever he tells you. (Just kidding\, Mark\, don’t get touchy!)\nNote: Kurt will not be attending except for when he visits from Michigan. \nDistance: 5.4 miles\nElevation Gain: 1200′\nDifficulty: Intermediate – hard for beginners\nDogs: Yes\, but must be leashed\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on Flanagan\nTrail: Out and back\, single track\, excellent condition\nSunset: Varies\, but bring a headlamp or flashlight when needed! \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, COVID-19 infected hikers \nBring:\nFlashlight/headlamp when it’s dark\nSunscreen and hat when it’s not (It gets hot as Hades in summer)\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 2L if you sweat a lot) \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:East Canyon and Possibly to Mission Peak
DESCRIPTION:Come and join me on a 6-8 mile hike in the Newhall area. There can be some beautiful fall colors in this area at times so let’s check it out. \nThe plan is to hike East Canyon which is 6 miles and possibly add Mission Peak\, depending on what the group decides. There is also an optional short turnout to Rice Canyon\, that I was not planning on doing but you can do as well.\nI will pay attention to the weather and the light\, if it is extremely hot\, rainy or windy I may cancel. I also cancel if less than two are signed up besides myself the morning of the hike. \nElevation Gain: 1800′ (more or less depending on what you do)\nDifficulty: Intermediate\, we are not a slow paced group\, please do not expect us to wait for you if you fall more than a little behind\, only break will be about halfway through. There are some good turnaround spots so if you find you can not keep up you can still join and turn around when needed\, just note you will be on your own if you are slower.\nDogs: No\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Free on the street. Pay attention to signs as there is a pay lot as well\, which usually is not needed\nI suggest coming from the 5 freeway\, getting off at Calgrove going past Ed Davis/Towsley on the Old Road\, once you see the Nazarene church on the right slow down as the trailhead will be coming up. Sometimes they park all the way back to the church but usually not. The trailhead is on a parallel dirt road but you park on the street/Old Road.\nTrail: Out and back\, mostly wide road\, with some uneven footing\nSunset: 4:55 pm bring flashlight or charged phone\, for just in case\, we might not need a light but you never know.\nWeather: Extreme temperatures\, rain or wind may cancel the hike\nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, poison oak\, can be on this hike\nBring: Plenty of water\, a snack\, extra layer just in case\, and a light\nSunscreen/hat/sunglasses since it is during the day\nLOTS of H20 when it’s hot (maybe 3L if you sweat a lot)\nWear Hiking Shoes for good traction and bring poles if you use them \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Chumash Night Magic hike at 6pm Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Chumash trail on Nov 14\, 2024. Thank you Jimbo \nEnjoy the magic of hiking the Chumash trail in the dark. Bring a flashlite and come feel the night with us. And\, most importantly\, get outdoors after working inside all day. \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike up the Chumash Trail in Simi Valley every Thursday night since the Jurassic Period\, and he’ll be leading this event until the Ice Age\, i.e. this hike always happens\, even when it rains\, snows\, hails\, or blows. SUMMARY:Sunday Rocky Trail Hike at 4:00 4:00 4:00 pm.
DESCRIPTION:The south side of Jenga Rock with the actual Rocky Peak in the center above on Sept 7 2025. Thanks Alan and his smartphone camera. \nWhereAmEye (Tall Mark) has been doing this hike in every Sunday afternoon for over 20 years\, and he’ll be leading this event as long as he keeps getting large annual hike-organizer pay raises. SUMMARY:Fish Canyon to Piano Box Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Let’s hike in search of fall colors\, this can be a beautiful spot for that.\nIt could be hot starting out (no shade) and then also get cooler as it can get windy in this area so please come prepared with layers!\nIt has been over a year since I last did this hike so nuances or changes in the trail might have occurred. Also hard to predict water level as there could be some rain that would increase the water but at this time it is probably pretty dry\, there is usually always a trickle of water even in dry times.\nI suggest due to the drive distance to try to arrive a little bit before start time. To make sure that we do not end up hiking in the dark we want to start at 2pm or as close to it as possible at my pace it should take only 3-4 hours and we will be done way before dark.\nAs a group though we should set a turn around time for any slower hikers\, to ensure we are not lingering out there too long. \nA beginner could come on their own or should start earlier in the day to allow for more time.\nDistance: 8 miles\nElevation Gain: 500\nDifficulty: Intermediate\, no beginners as we need to stay together\nDogs: A well behaved\, trained dog can join us as long as you do not expect us to wait for you\, in hot weather please understand that we might not wait for you if you are tending to the needs of your dog\nRestrooms: No\nWater Fountain: No\nParking: Parking along road near trailhead\, you will need to purchase a $5 adventure pass. Purchase at Big 5 or REI the day before or morning of. I am not 100% sure if they check for parking as they took out the pit toilet. But I usually have my yearly pass with me just in case.\nTrail: Out and back\, uneven footing\nSunset: 6:01pm we should be back before dark but please bring either a charged phone or headlamp/flashlight just in case as it might be dark in our parking area if we take more than our 3 hour time allotted (at my pace we should be done by 5:30pm latest.\nWeather: Rainy\, wind\, or unusual weather will cancel the hike. The canyon can fill up with water if there is a lot of rain. Should be dry but still plan for some water crossings. \nPlease pay attention to the weather the day of in case there are adverse conditions and then the hike would be cancelled. \nIf by the morning of there are less than 2 signed up besides myself it also may cancel. \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes\, slip-‘n-fall\, poison oak all can happen on this hike. If it does rain while we are hiking we would need to be careful as well (probably not likely).\nBring: a personal snack and plenty of water 2-3 liters minimum\, an extra layer in case it gets cool. I suggest wearing shoes that you do not mind getting wet\, but that also have traction to keep you from slipping on wet ground\, like a good trail runner shoe with traction. Polls are also handy to have if there is water crossings.\nFlashlight/headlamp to be safe\nSunscreen and hat is recommended because we will start in full sun. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY:\n• You must RSVP to attend this event\, no exceptions.\n• If you choose to sign up for any event\, you are releasing the organizers of PM Hikers from all liability in case of possible injuries.\n• The organizers of PM Hikers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. We will only stop briefly to catch our breath and then take a short break at the turnaround point.\nYou can hike at your own pace just do not expect us to wait for you or to catch up to you if you are faster. SUMMARY:Sunday Rocky Trail Hike at 5:00pm.
