About This Event
Los Angeles simplest and most boring Century Bike Ride. You'll need about 33 laps to make it a full 100 miles. Or you can just sample it with 1 lap at 3.3 miles
There is also 100 feet of gain on each lap. Doesn't sound like much, but that's 3300 feet for the entire century so you will definitely get a good workout.
The real challenge is the mental challenge of riding around and around and around all day. Indy 500 drivers do 200 laps. They don't seem to get bored or dizzy. Of course you can ride as many laps as you wish. One nice thing about this century is that you pass your car every 3 miles and you can always call it quits at any time. Make this a bucket list ride and set a new personal record for miles in one day. See how many walkers and/or runners you pass and revel in the efficiency of covering miles and miles on a bicycle. It doesn't matter how many laps you get; just get outside, stay safe and stay healthy.
This classic Wheelmen route is a good training ride for the LA Wheelmen Grand Tour which starts at 124 miles and tops off at 400 in one day. http://www.lawheelmen.org/the-grand-tour-2/ Many Wheelmen have taken on both of these challenges at least once.
This ride will be special as it coincides with a 5k/10k run/walk around the Rose Bowl to honor Sherwood Lee, a founding member of the LA Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee. https://runsignup.com/Race/LAChinatownFirecracker/Page-16 This ride also qualifies for the Los Angeles Firecracker virtual bike ride so for those who have registered, 6 or 12 laps will put you in good standing for your goodie bag.
You will be in good company and let's see who winds up as last person riding! Post your total in the comments section and upload a photo or screenshot of your finished mile tracker (Garmin, Strava, etc). There may be a secret prize to the person with the most laps/miles.
This is a self supported ride. You need to carry sufficient drinks and snacks for the entire ride. Store it in your car and you can have a picnic at your 1/2 way point.
There is no escort, SAG or Rest Stop support.
There is no route sheet as it is virtually impossible to get lost on this ride.
Helmets are mandatory and bring a spare innertube in case of flats.
