About This Event
Mandeville Canyon is a "bucket list" climb on the longest paved dead end road in Los Angeles for LA cyclists. It is the featured destination for today's ride as we continue exploring our city on two wheels. For today, we add a flat 2.5-mile detour on the return route to visit the Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden, featuring a girder from one of the twin towers.
Neither easy, nor hard, our route is comparable to the July Lake Hollywood ride in terms of distance and climbing profile. Your cycling friends "in the know" will be impressed that you completed the climb and you will be able to bring others on future attempts to try to beat meetup group member Carmichael's PR.
This ride is rated for intermediate to advanced riders due to the distance and climb. e-bikes will have no problem with this ride regardless of fitness level.
At 30 miles and just under 2,000 ft of climbing, the basic route features a 5.3 mile climb. Because the Canyon road is a dead end, the traffic is not usually a problem even though there are no bike lanes. The route is all about the climb. The climb isn't steep until the very end, and the downhill return isn't crazy fast. Climb as much as you feel comfortable. Everyone has to retrace the route on the way down. We will regroup as needed to keep everyone together.
It's been HOT the last couple of weeks but the forecast calls for a cooling trend starting Saturday so this is a perfect opportunity to get outside. Forecast
Detailed cue sheets will be provided. The ride will be pre-ridden during the prior week to check on road conditions. Thus, updates may occur at the last minute.
