About This Event

If you are looking for the “Easy” Newcomer Ride, then you are a week late! Starting in July 2022 we will host the “Easy” and “Regular” Rides on different weekends. In addition, the “Regular” rides are west-side-based during the hotter summer months. ‘

At just under 35 miles and over 2000 ft of climbing, this route nonetheless covers new ground for this Meetup Group. Most of the climbing is in the first 10 miles, with a recreational pace through Benedict Canyon to Mulholland Drive, with canyon and city views and one or two regroups. Once at Mulholland, we head east along the ridge, with valley and city views all the way to the Pacific, Griffith Park and the Observatory, then descending to the Cahuenga Pass.

A final, challenging climb up Wonder View provides a panorama of the Hollywood Reservoir (aka Lake Hollywood) where we check out the current water level. A careful descent to the lake edge and regroup gives us both a photo op and water stop. Continuing around the lake edge and down into Hollywood, the route returns to Culver City through residential West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Just before the end, the route makes an (optional) visit to the Hayden Industrial Tract in Culver City, where abandoned industrial buildings received a new life by adding modern architectural features.

If you have seen the Hayden Tract before you may return directly to the start for ice cream at Coolhaus or Salt & Straw. Otherwise, take a gander at provocative buildings such as the “Beehive,’ the “Samitaur Tower,” the “Waffle Building (Vespertine),” the “Destroyer,” and “What Wall?” https://images.app.goo.gl/Sa2mYu57pPi5i9pz6

Detailed cue sheets will be provided. The ride will be pre-ridden during the prior week to check on road conditions. Thus, updates may occur at the last minute.
